The olympics in general

Congratulations to Canada!

I just finished watching it as prerecorded. They were the better team. I would have bet on them before the game, too. I was rabidly rooting for the US. The puck simply seems to stick better to the tape with them canucks. The US team was sometimes just overzealous (or perhaps inexperienced). If it wasn't for Miller, this game would be way more lopsided; not even close.

Both US/CA games during these Olympics were some of the most enjoyable hockey games I've ever seen.

I thought the game was very well refereed. There was maybe one non-call I saw, as interference, but this game was sure way better than the bronze medal game, where I feel the refs really accommodated the outcome.

Didn't get to see the closing ceremony, but that's also recorded for me, and I'll hopefully get to that this week sometime.

Oh, and lastly, congrats to Canada for hosting a superb Winter Olympics!

I blame NBC here for showing way too much curling, not that I don't think it's a very fun game, but it was just too much coverage, proportionately IMO. I wanted to see more of so many other events. Surely, that's probably my fault too to some extent, in not figuring the events/times better.

I gotta say I think it's BS that Ohno got DQ'd in the 500m. He barely touched the Canadian. And can someone please tell me how the hell you have a Canadian judge on the ice when you've got 2 Canadians in the race?!?!? Do you think that might have influenced him in any way?!?!? HHmmmm...

I would be just as pissed if they had had an American or Korean judge on the ice. It doesn't make sense. Judges are supposed to be impartial. It should be standard practice that they have judges of multiple nationalities so that they can rotate out judges from the countries that are competing. That said, congrats to Ohno on becoming the most decorated American winter athlete ever!!

Good point Darien87, I completley agree. There was some impartiality in the judging elswhere also, but overall I thought it was a great Olympics with good coverage .... It and I were more HT oriented this time ... HD in Dolby 5.1 to a 60" plasma ;) AWESOME

Peace and Good Sound,

P.S. - I gave you a green chicklet, but I hit enter before I signed it ..sorry

Sidney Crosby is clearly a cut above the rest. Best hockey player in the NHL and now he's got a gold to go with his Stanley Cup crown. I watched that game expecting him to come up with goods and he delivered.

I'm not a fan of Crosby. I call him Sindy Crosby. Wah. Whine.

When he first entered the NHL at the age of 18, he was guilty of complaining about all the hacking and slashing he received on the ice. It made me cringe, I'll admit. But in his defence, the attention he received from opposing players was overwhelming. And, I repeat, he was 18!

The maturation he has undergone since then, has been nothing short of amazing. Being given the captaincy of his team is the proof in the pudding.

Gretzky and Lemieux were also accused of the same behaviour when they entered the NHL. The common denominator is that they were mere kids. I surmise that superstar hockey players generally enter the NHL at an earlier age than in other pro sports and take a lot more physical abuse from opponents. I would say that it's natural that a lack of maturity would reveal itself in such circumstances. However, they usually grow out of it.
