The relationship was at the point where if I made any multi-thousand dollar audio purchases before this I’d basically look like an *********…she would have probably accepted it, but my family…not so much.
There's a lot to be said for keeping all those people happy ... :D

... I wish I coulda said that with a straight face.

So did you propose? Were you living together to begin with? Is there a date or are you just 'giving' her a ring? We need answers over here. There has been more of this ring giving and wedding stuff here but it seems like people are bypassing the legal system lately. The only people trying to be legally married seem to be adwilk and mperfct ... golf buddies. :p j/k :D

I'm legally married but there is still a great debate in my house over whether the marriage license acts as a certificate of ownership, kind of like a dog license.:D

Ring? What ring? I thought you had gotten some new fancy B&O speakers!

Ring- what have you done?!! Congrats!

As my own mother once said: "We like her. Why is she marrying you?"

Gee, thanks mom.

I figured since I went pretty big on the ring, I’ll get lest resistance when I tell her I need two new subs…we’ll see how that plays out.:D
Uh...yeah...right.
Let us know how that works out for ya!

I was smart...I married a woman that does NOT have pierced ears. Hence, no need for expensive diamond earings! Playing Devil's advocate, I did get married so how smart was I?

Angel: "Remember she let you buy a 65" TV"

Devil: "Yeah, but you drive a stationwagon!"

Angel: "It's a CROSSOVER!!!"

Devil: "Stationwagon!"

The sphere is made of Pietersite aka Tempest Stone.

It's one of my favorite types of rock… yes I like rocks.
Good on you for calling it a rock, rather than a mineral, as the idiot that wrote the wikipedia article did (or rather than wrote it, appears to have copied it from a website called "mystic sculptress").

Geez Alex it seems like you want the full story… I assure you it’s not that interesting.

If you must know, we’ve been living together for two years now. Furthermore, we both work for Purdue, and in the same in building, but in totally different departments.

That might seem like it would make things more difficult, but it has actually helped in our case. Since we have intimate knowledge of each other’s jobs we can provide each other support and insight to the various work related challenges we face. Plus neither of us ever questions when the other has to work asinine hours, which has been a challenge for me in past relationships.

I knew she was a keeper last year when I asked her to talk me out of buying a new plasma, and she asked if it would result in needing a new TV stand… needless to say I got my TV, and she got her new stand, all the while she knew that such a purchase would delay me buying her a ring.;)

Obviously, I’m making light of the situation, but I’m positive we’re meant for each other.

Date: May 29th…not shotgun, thank god.

That’s a lot closer to the truth, than I would like to admit…

Thanks, I hadn’t really thought of it that way, now I think I’m going to get sick:eek:

On the semi-brighter side I guess I’ve shown myself that 802ds aren’t as far out of a reach as I once thought they were, at least used.

Time to form a 5 year upgrade plan…

Well, at least you have something for the money you spent. Mine is still being made.

Had I got the 802's, I would have them by now.

That made me laugh!

She is a classic enabler when it comes to me buying toys and I haven’t been forced to compromise on anything big yet.

The real problem is that I have more expensive taste versus her simpler taste… but once I expose her to what I like she gains appreciation.

For example, I think she drinks more microbrew beer then I do now…which is amazing because she used to be a fan of Bud Ice Light:eek:

I totally missed the meaning of that statement!

Congratulations!

I think I had to wait a little over two weeks after making my final selection and finalizing payment. It was nerve racking to say the least.
To make matters worse, I had asked the merchant to take an Idealscope image of the center stone prior to mounting, because I had selected a stone based on physical proportions and a 40x image, rather than what they had in their physical inventory. Despite several reassurances that this would happen, they failed to do so.

I could have been a real pain in the arse and asked them to disassemble the ring, but the wait had been too painful and I pretty much knew what the image was going to look like and really just wanted it for my personal records.

At least my appraiser confirmed that I had made an excellent selection.

Congrats Ryan. It sounds like you two will be very happy. Good luck with everything and keep us posted on the plans. VERY NICE ring by the way.

Our tenth is this year and I know I'm expected to get her an upgrade.

Oh man, the tenth was a killer for me. Three fairly big rocks - past; present; future. Great marketing by DeBeers. Had no kids yet; economy was strong - it didn't seem too dumb to spend so much on a ring. My 20th is about 1.5 yrs away and my wife has been hinting. My response is to just scream back "NFW". If I drop big coin on another ring the tradeoff will be a levitating HT in my back yard.

You "got in" way deeper than me. The Jeweler asked me what diamond I was looking for and I told him I was cool with a broken beer bottle if he could make it pass the wife test.:D

Good luck on the tenth;)

I suppose a piece of equipment for your theater bought in her honor isn’t going to fly.:D

I don’t want to think about it at this point, at least not in the financial terms.

You could say that!

It was all me though, she would have been happy with whatever. So I have no one to blame but myself.
