Hi

Last week I bought an AV receiver, Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K and Paradigm CT 90 Cinema speaker set.

The AV receiver and speakers seem to be working fine. The subwoofer (SW) not so much.

The SW shows a green light in the front, so its receiving power, but beyond that there is no other sound whatsoever even when switch it on/off, no single thump.

I tried all troubleshooting in the manual and nothing helped. Made sure the the LFE was set to 0db and not "OFF".

I connected the subwoofer out on the A/V rec. to my laptop mic in, switched on the speaker setup mode and was able to see the laptop recognize an incoming signal. Tried playing around with the db on the A/V rec and the laptop showed a difference in incoming sound level.

I connected my laptop to the A/V rec using a headphone jack to RCA wire and made sure I could listen to music via the receiver. Then connected the RCA to the SW and still no sound. No thump nothing !

I also tried toggling the Phase setting and adjusted the SW cutoff frequency and SW level dials.

Is there any other possible test I could do? or is it time to have it sent back?!

Appreciate if anyone could help. Thanks in advance. :(

Look on page 95 of your owner's manual. Make sure your front speakers are set to "Small" to send bass frequencies to the subwoofer. Then check the crossover frequency, try 80 or 100 Hz.

Under the Manual SP mode you should also be able to send and hear test tones to the subwoofer.

Good Luck!

Thanks Forest Man

Tried it this morning... the output was not working when connected to subwoofer... however when connected to the laptop the signal was being picked up... so the A/V is atleast sending some signal out... any other test you can think of which will confirm the subwoofer works??

I think the subs a dud. Connect the LFE input and see if you get sound. If not it's a dud.

If you can not get a sound in the Manual SP mode with the "sub" speakers selected, then I agree with TLS your subwoofer is a dud. One thing you might check on the subwoofer, is if it has any fuses, check to see if they are blown ( open-circuited) or check to see if there is any circuit breaker on the sub that could possible be reset. Could you borrow another subwoofer to verify ?

Good Luck!

Cannot borrow any to verify. In any case, I have returned this entire set and expect a replacement to arrive today... cant wait for it to get here ! Fingers crossed. Hopefully this time around the entire 5.1 works fine.

Got the new set of speakers.. this time around as soon as the cable touched the input on the sub I could hear it work. The last one was an absolute dud.

All sounds great now. Thanks for your help guys.
