Desperate for Sub Help

I need a subwoofer to complete my system. I would like to stay in the sub$1000 range. I am more concerned with getting a good deal and hitting the price/performance sweet spot.

I currently own Studio 100 v.5s with the matching paradigm center and surrounds. I am 50/50 music and movies.

I've so far heard good things about SVS and Velodyne. I'm looking for 3/4 options...

please help

For the best price/performance, you have to buy subs from internet direct companies, at least if you are not willing to build the sub yourself. For under $1k, the best companies are Hsu Research, SVS, Outlaw Audio, Elemental Designs, Rythmik, and the aforementioned Epik subwoofers. There is also the MFW-15 from AV123.

I wouldn't worry about velodyne unless you get some kind of stupendous price break on one, they are good subs but they are overpriced with respect to the internet direct companies listed above.

Thanks all this input is great. If folks could suggest 2 or 3 specific model numbers, that would be great?

What are your room dimensions? I went with an SVS sub. I love it! I emailed them with my room dimensions and told em what I wanted and we decided to go with the PB12-Plus for my 17x28 room, it's awesome. I highly recommend their stuff.

I think Epik Subs would be fine for music. The few reviews I have read of the conquest said it was superb for music as well as movies. One negative review does not mean they are all terrible. There might be a few subs which are somewhat quicker, but I will bet that Epik's subs beat most subwoofers in their price class for music as well as movies.

For one grand, one of the highest choices on my list would be the Rythmik F15, that would hard for movies and be extremely clean and quick for music. $1k will also get you two ED A5s-300 subs, including shipping. Or two A3-300's. Any of those would make for a terrific system for either movies or music. There is also the Hsu VTF3 mk3, which is a great for both sound quality and thunderous SPL.

There is one thing you didn't mention, the size of the room this sub will go in this will help alot of us to refine our suggestions to subs that would best
fit your room.
