Folks, just got home from seeing this film. I must say from the start it caught my attention. That is one thing, but keeping my attention is quite another. This film did NOT disappoint. From the get go, it drew me in. Lots of action with a good story-line. Denzel Washington was at his best and Gary Oldman was very good. Both audio and video were spot on throughout. There was even some humor here and there which I thought added a nice touch. I can easily give this film a solid B+ because it is that good-no great! I even liked the ending which is a rarity for me. This is one film I highly recommend. ;):);)

Cheers,

Phil

I'm looking forward to this one....
I am sure you will like it. It grabs your attention right from the opening scene. This is the best I have seen Denzel. Gary Oldman is also spectacular. Over all, however, I still liked Avatar better. ;);)

This one looks pretty interesting. I saw the trailer for it a few months back, but it didn't give a lot of detail. With Gary Oldman and Denzel, it seemed like it could be a winner though.

I just saw "Eli" with my wife.

I thought it was pretty good - solid "B+" as well.

...But not quite as good as AVATAR.:D

To be fair, I haven't seen any movie as good as Avatar.:D

It appears the whole world agrees with us.

As of Monday, Avatar has grossed $1.6 billion world wide!!!

Only $200 million to tie "Titanic"!

Awesome isn't it? I mean, it will be a while before Avatar even leaves the theaters, let alone comes to home release. My guess is, it will easily surpass Titanic. However, as with all things only time will tell. ;):);)

Thanks a bunch my friend. Really enjoy doing this. I try to keep it very general so not to give too much away. Hope that I have succeeded in that. Comments like this help motivate me to keep doing it. :);):)

I saw Eli tonight and thought it was pretty good..."The Road Warrior meets Fahrenheit 451". Denzel Washington was excellent as the man with a mission, as was Gary Oldman who employed his scenery-chewing evil in the service as the town warlord. I also liked Mila Kunis. My only recollections of her are from The 70's Show and as Meg in Family Guy. She brought a lot to Solara that I didn't know she had. The sepia-tinted, dusty look of the film really set a mood, as did the close-up shots of sweaty, heavily-pored faces. For all the sci-fi/disaster movies I have seen, I was surprised how shocked I was at the sight of a distant, wrecked San Francisco. I got to see this one again.

I saw it at first showing today at reduced rates :D
WOW, what a good movie. Thanks for the suggestion. The cinematography and acting was very good indeed, kind of scary future possibility:eek:
I think I need to buy this one too.

I see. Getting to see it at a reduced rate only serves to sweeten the deal. So, how did you get a reduced rate? Early matinee perhaps? Plan to see Legion real soon. Glad to hear you liked Avatar!

I like your reviews too, Phil. Sometimes they help me steer clear of the duds. ;)

Other times they point me towards movies like Eli that I'll try to see in the theaters with the girl ... the one I live with ...
... not the one I'm just &%^$#@!!!. :D

I like to kid. ;)

LOL.........very glad that you find my reviews useful. My hope is that others do as well. ;);) If you notice, I try to be very general so not to give too much away. No need to spoil the movie for those whom have NOT seen it yet. The door is always open for a PM if anyone here has any questions. As always, I will do my very best to answer candidly. Hope all is well your way. ;):);)

Yes, first showing of the day is less than the matinee a little bit;):D
Every penny helps especially when it doesn't hurt to get it:D

Come to think of it, the same thing goes for my local theater. That is, all shows before Noon each day are $6.00 whereas afternoon matinees are $7.00 each. Like you said, every penny counts in this economy. :p;):p Just glad it was worth your time. It sure was mine.

I just saw the Blu-ray of this film. The audio track had my subs humming along pretty good. If you're an explosion junkie there are some real treats in here. Great violence too ... some gratuitous nudity would have been nice but you can't have it all ... can you?

BTW The Book of Eli totally smoked From Paris With Love.

I found it interesting that Denzel had a hand in producing this film without having it suck. For some reason I think that is the norm when actors get involved with things other than acting. Anyway, good film.
