1) Handguns are banned in city limits.
That's stupid, so now only the criminals have handguns. Maybe you should consider changing your career.:D

Are you not even allowed to have one in your home?

Yep not even within my own home, plus I live within a 100 yards of a school, so not only can I not own a handgun within my home but I could be charged with a Federal crime because of how close I am to a school which carries a penalty of 10 yrs and whatever else they would charge me with.

Bad Monkey! :)
You spent more than that on speaker wires!
But I sure saved a bunch by going all Gilligan's Island on the cable elevators. :)

2) Rifles and Shotguns must be registered every year with the CPD.
According to my brother in law the shot gun is the weapon of choice for home defense. I would be stunned to find out that you didn't have one. Now that I think about it I bet you have hand guns too you little criminal.

Alex why do I have to be a criminal? why can't I be a law abiding citizen and have a stash of guns and ammo that would make the military blush:D. All kidding aside when it comes to gun ownership this city makes it tough on people who are law abiding, while gangbangers, murders and thieves seem to get their hands on guns at will. All I can say gun control works as well as the war on drugs.

Because you live in Chicago, where criminals have run everything for close to 100 years and if they want to have all of the power, nobody else can be allowed to have any power. Governments that want to take away guns are only interested in controlling people. Gun control places the vast majority under the thumb of the government and they assume the non-law abiding won't live by the laws. They know that if people register their guns, they will be controlling roughly 90% pf the population. You may have noticed that third world countries often have next to no education for their people and offer almost no services for them. That's because an uneducated populace is more controllable than a well educated populace. Throwing these people an occasional bone makes them depend on the government and when that happens, the government has the people right where they want them.

They may know it, but they don't seem to acknowledge that criminals don't buy guns at gun stores, following the rules the rest of us are required to. They go to a bar, call someone who "knows a guy", have someone buy it for them (straw buyers are a big problem here, at one gun dealer) or buy them as parts, which aren't usually regulated.

Your comment places gun control in the same realm as the war on drugs- gun control is still a state/local issue and the other is national, falling under the Federal government's umbrella. If gun control is ever mandated federally, it's gonna get ugly, in a hurry.

If I get caught with a handgun, I posted this earlier I live within a 100 yards of a school it's federal time which is 10yrs period there is no parole, no time taken off for good behavior so after all said and done I could be looking at a sentence of 15-20 yrs total which includes what every the city will charge me with. I now the 2 issues are different but the have both failed, drugs are easy to find and getting a gun illegally is just as easy if not easier.

We have the same problems here in MKE. Guns and drugs are so easy to get it's almost as if the laws are written to control the people who wouldn't break them, anyway. We just had a day care operator arrested for selling pot to undercover officers twice in one week and they made the buys while little kids were there. We have a gun dealer that is well-known for selling to straw buyers and then the guns are used in murders, gang-related shootings and in one case, a 17 year old guy had someone buy a gun from this dealer and he shot two bicycle cops in the face two weeks later. If anyone ever believes this douchbag bought it for protection, they should be shot with the same gun.

The law against having guns near schools is a good one only concerning people who are loitering or driving/walking through the area, IMO. If someone wants to have a gun to protect their family and/or property and they live in that zone, they better not have any hint of violence, felony conviction or mental instability in their history. If they, or anyone who might live in that house has any of this, no guns. The problem with making laws like these is that people don't go out to a school to gun down a bunch of little kids- it's almost always a drive-by, domestic violence disturbance or a drug deal with flying lead that kills or maims an innocent bystander.

If you want a real eye-opener, look on the sex offender registry and note the proximity of offenders to the schools. You may even have a neighbor or two who's on it and possibly someone within easy walking distance.

I wasn't sure whether to put this in the Steam Vent or the Musical Goodness folder. ;) It's music to my ears. For those that don't think so....well, as Craig Ferguson says, "You can go join your friends in Al Queda!" :D Otherwise....enjoy.....

Hey John. Is the Split California movement still alive down there? And yes, it is unusual. That's the problem...you won't be able to carry it (legally) anywhere outside the county. :( Although...we welcome you to Oregon. :D

Pretty much IS split, since there isn't much in the middle :) Nor Cal and SoCal are very different and most people think Ca. is like SoCal.

I know, won't be OK out of the county, but it is better than nothing.

Split in spirit, for sure. But the problem still exists...the demographics of the south are sucking the north dry of resources...water, state and fed tax money, fuel allotments, produce, timber, etc. Maybe someday North California will be the next state! :)
