Do you ever wake up and just know that it's gonna be "one of those days?"
Monday night.. well actually Tuesday morning.. I was up until about 2:30am trying to finish a project for an early meeting first thing Tuesday. I finallly get to bed then suddenly I hear some chirping... wake up... the power's out and every single fire alarm in the house is chirping non-stop. My wife and daughter can sleep through anything,... not me unfortunately... so I'm up now. I rollled around in bed, but no use. I get everyone up for the morning and go to take a shower... no hot water. It was 27 degrees in Tampa which is just stupid. I go out in the cold garage... of course... the pilot light went out. No power, no hot water. I freeze my a$$ off trying to figure out how to light it back up since in FL you really don't worry about these sorts of things. An hour later, I have hot water... still no power... but there's trucks outstide working on it.
No coffee, no toast... nothing... but I'm pleased to have taken a hot shower in my house that's now sitting at 54 degrees. I go to leave... can't open the garage door...no power still. I go to pull on the cord for the release and along with the pull comes the cord and some plastic piece and a bolt that hits me in the eye. Can't open the garage door and now I can't leave. I get the ladder and start to home repairs in my suit. About 30 minutes later I can release the door. The things weighs a ton because of all the hurricane reinforcing but I get the door up... but appparently... not far enough... so it comes right back down and hits me in the shoulder... the one I just had surgery on and makes a nice wet blace mark on my coat. I go change, and I finally get on my way. Oh and the power came on as I'm pulling out of the garage... no joke. Of course, there's accidents and my 55 minute commute takes an hour and 20 minutes. Work sucked all day and I can't even talk about it.
Driving home all I can think about is getting a fire going and just relaxing. The wood I bought is a bit wet, so I've been using starter logs to get it going. It just makes it easier. 3 stores later, I finally find a box and I'm on my way home. Surprisingly the fire was up and running fairly quickly. I thought this might be time for a change and perhpas instead of Long Island Ice Teas or wine, I'll make us some Espresso. I go to our coffee bar and pull everything out... press the button the ridculously overpriced Capresso thing and nothing,. It hummed but no water flowed. I didn't even bother to look at it at this point. I just smiled, turned it off and walked away amused at the $1200 paper weight sitting on their.
I then decide to go relax and play on the internet a bit and get my mind together. I go to turn on my computer... nothing,. Check all the plugs... nothing. I go through the hassle of pulling the thing out unplugging it from the surge protector (that I will soon find out completely did not work) and plug it into a different socket. Push the botton . Nothing. I look at it... much like you do when your car dies and you stare aimlessly into the engine compartment as if you actually know what's wrong, let alone how to fix it. I notice the light on the power supply is blnking. Hmmm... so I grab my laptop and go online and read all sorts of things to try... nothing.
At this point, I'm exhausted, hungry, cold, and about to kill someone. I sat quietly in my office doing nothing and decided just to go to bed. I hit the pillow without dinner at about 9:30.
So now... will today be a continuation or a new start. Okay... Rant/Vent over.
