No Water Pressure In Shower Driving Me Crazy!

Hopefully it is just the shower head, as that's an easy fix. You probably already know this, but be sure to hold on to the pipe coming out of the wall (with your hands or pliers) to keep it from twisting when you try to get the shower head off. It would really suck if you broke something inside the wall.
So true. I have had it off before just a few weeks ago, but maintenance looked at it. For some reason, they have it on very tight. I will just get them to take it back off for me when they have time. This works well so that they can also check out the valves to make sure they are open and not restricted. Hopefully, that will solve my problem. ;):);)

I'll bet you have a pebble or something where the hotwater connects that is impeding the flow. If the blockage is rust colored, you may want to see if you have any galvanized pipes in your system that are rusting out. Or, an older water heater that is rusting away.

Do you have one of the shower control valves that regulates the water pressure balance between the hot and cold water based on the temperature of the cold water? I installed one in my house when we reworked the entire plumbing system when we moved in. We couldn't figure out why the water wasn't flowing at all before we fired up the water heater. So if your hot water temp is low, your total water pressure will be reduced to try and balance out the temp. It could be so simple as a bad element in the water heater if its electric. Good luck....

No, the water is plenty hot. In fact, the hotter the water the slower it runs out of the shower head. I also found out I do not have a water heater. The reason being, the water is furnished here and so are all utilities. My guess is, there is some sort of water saver installed for all 22 apartments here. But, I will know soon enough. Thanks for the info though. ;):);)

Remove the shower head....most likely there is a little screen filter inside....remove it and your pressure will return.

Try that...probably no need to replace anything.

Seriously, I have no life.
Folks, I am having a problem with my water pressure when taking a shower. The warmer I turn the water, the worse it gets. What I don't understand is that I have excellent water pressure in my kitchen sink, as well as, my bathroom sink. It does take my commode a bit to fill back up, but nothing too bad. So, why then would my water pressure in my shower suck so badly?:confused::confused: BTW, the shower head is not clogged up either. As such, not really sure what it is. There are no leaks from what I have seen. Please help if you know anything about plumbing. It would be most appreciated. ;);)
Cheers,

Phil
So, if you run the cold water in the shower, it has plenty of pressure?
As stated by majorloser, if you have a modern place or was retrofitted to comply with new codes, the shower would have a pressure balance system of some kind so when you flush the commode, the shower will not sculled you. I have one and it is the hot side that seems to be affected, for some reason, by the mechanism in the mixing valve. Mine is a Delta and uses a stainless steel piston that balances pressure and over time it has a buildup that affects the hot side travel. I bet that is what your issue is.
I take mine apart and use 400 wet/dry sandpaper or finer and sand the piston. Good for another block of time:D
If it was calcium build up, you would have the issue at other faucets too, not just the shower head.

Very good points all well taken. It turns out that I do not have a water heater in my apartment. As such, there must be some kind of boiler or something. To be honest, I am a bit surprised about this. However, all utilities are included here so I am not complaining. The water pressure is better when the water is colder. In other words, when using warm water the more it gets hot the less the water flows out of my shower head. Conversely, the cooler the water temperature the more water flows out of my shower head. Maintenance will be back tomorrow and I will talk to them as soon as I can. They stay very busy so it may be a few days. Thanks for the info.
