This happened in my shower. I checked the head and cleaned it but it was when I pulled the valves behind the handles (same goes if you have a single assembly) that I found lots of grit had clogged them up. I just rinsed them off and put them back in.

Once I cleaned them out I had massive pressure back in my shower.

Thanks Clint. I will know soon enough as I just bought a new shower head. Maintenance will put it on soon. I do believe, however, that will solve a lot of my problem. Only time will tell.

Judging by your comment about the commode. I would say the issue is actually related to your bathroom.

Thanks Clint. I will know soon enough as I just bought a new shower head. Maintenance will put it on soon. I do believe, however, that will solve a lot of my problem. Only time will tell.

A shower head alone cannot solve pressure issues just in the hot water side. But as Clint indicated, either a clogged valve on the hot side or an issue of the pressure balance mechanism if you have one in that valve assembly.

Right, but I do not have a hot water heater in my apartment. There are 22 units here all 1 BR where the utilities are included in our rent which is income based. Therefore, the hot water running into the apartments come by way of a boiler. As such, I do not know the assembly/specifications of it. I will, however, have the maintenance guys check on the valves. I also believe the water pressure is fine, but the water flow is what I am having a problem with. A new shower head is bound to help that situation, because it is quite clogged up. If not, then it is obviously in the valves or something with respect to the boiler. Hopefully, I will know soon enough. Thanks for putting it all into perspective for me.

Have maintenance check the knob (or knobs) that control the water flow to the shower. The water has to go through there before hitting the shower head.

If the showerhead were the problem it would affect both the hot and cold pressure, not just one. Since the problem is with the hot water only, they are a more likely cause of the problem.

Right, and I will have maintenance check on them. Then, go from there. It never hurts to have a new shower head anyways............LOL!!!!!!!

Well, mark had the right nomenclature, the valves in the handle in the shower not at the heater or boiler as there are none there.
Depending on the age of the building, if there were any updates to modern standards requiring pressure or temperature balance valves( in each shower stall ) if you even have one. I built mine in 1993 and the code required it. Or, I just put one in, memory lapse remembering the older house we lived in where it got hot when someone flushed

The shower head is on. From what I can tell, the flow is better. Maintenance cleaned and checked the valves behind the wall. However, I will take a fresh shower in the morning and see how much better the flow is. Hopefully, I will be impressed.

Those heads only let so much water pass through so what I always do is drill out the limiting do-hickey by like an extra 1/32". It's in the part that screws on I believe. It just gives you a little extra without blasting your nuts down the drain.

Update!

Folks, I would like to take the time to think each and every one of you that offered me some advice. As such, I am happy to report that the new shower head has been installed AND has made a difference in my water flow. Now, I look forward to getting my shower. Maintenance cleaned out the valves behind the wall in which they claim was not too clogged up. Therefore, it appears my shower head was the main culprit. Thanks once again for all of the suggestions. You guys rock!

The shower head is on. From what I can tell, the flow is better. Maintenance cleaned and checked the valves behind the wall. However, I will take a fresh shower in the morning and see how much better the flow is. Hopefully, I will be impressed.

That is good news but I don't see how the head alone would affect how much hot water you are getting or not as there is only one pipe is going to it after the mixing valves, hot and cold faucet.

Did you by chance ask the maintenance guy if it has a pressure difference or temperature compensation in there someplace, or just old fashioned vales that lets you get scalded when the toilet is flushed

No, did not get the chance to ask them. However, I will the next time I see them. It may be a while, because they are awful busy right now. The apartments here are about 18-years old. Not sure it that makes a difference or not.

So when Phil took a shower with his restricted shower head and any other tenant called for hot water (washing clothes, showers, etc.) the water took the path of least resistance. This would be especially noticeable, the farther Phil's apartment is from that boiler.
