What to use for backyard system?

Just a general question here... to acheive best audio in your back yard are you better off getting a good pair (or 2) of patio speakers then get one or two outdoor subwoofers... Of have a pair of decnt pro audio towers that can be moved in and out of the house when needed?

For outdoor, I would not necessarily break the bank on speakers. I have always opted for relative middle to low end outdoor speakers. With the wide open areas and the variable noise from neighbors, wind, lawn mowers, it is just not worth the extra money for me.

How much area will the speakers need to cover/how pissed do you want your neighbors to be? The first is a serious ? and the second is a serious thing to consider. Did you have a budget in mind? If you want good sound and complete portability, Soundcast is a really good choice. It's not cheap but it sounds good, the batteries last a long time and it's RF, but I haven't heard any interference on the one at one of my distributors. They let us take it outside or anywhere around the building and it receives very well at over 200 feet. Also, they have a few models called SpeakerCast and they can use the same transmitter. It has a 1/8" stereo jack and the handle doubles as a place to put an iPod or other portable music player. The online demo shows one in a car wash and it is that water-resistant.

I don't know about that- I think I have the best garage system in the neighborhood. A portable radio/tape/CD boombox would never cut it, for me.

I live on an acreage and the area I will be trying to fill with sound is 50 x 50 as an approximate guess. I am thinking I am going to go with 4 decent 6 1/2" 3 way patio speakers. Then I will need to add something to add some low frequency....

What would end up sounding better outside in their respective boxes....

I could set it up so I have a 1000W sub amp running some subs outside. So what would sound better just grabbing as is and running with a pair or 4 6 1/2"..... Say you had all this laying around... Grab a car audio box with 4 10" subs, or 4 12", totalling a 4 ohm load so 250w per speaker running 100hz - 150hz and down? Or grab I pair of old tower speakers that have two 15" woofers in each one. When hooking the woofers up directly to the amp (not just hooking to all speakers in tower) all 4 produme a 4 ohm mono load so that would be 250w per speaker running 100 - 150 hz and down?

So pretty much car sub box in the outdoors playing the lows or pro audio box? Or should a guy spend the extra money and buy outdoor subwoofers?
