That would not even cross an honest, working man's mind.
I know. That's why you and Buckeye need me. :)

I'm with you in thinking that it's a matter of changing out some parts down there. The Good Year shop may not have anybody talented enough to do the work because those places typically pay squat.

How in the world can 4 tires run $800 for a freakin domestic car with stock rims? I know it's nobodies first goat roping but some tire outfit down in OK was running a 4 for the price of 3 deal. My nephew found the ad and checked the price. When I went to the shop and asked for their best price they conveniently didn't include the advertised sale.

Point is to watch for sales and then watch 'them'.

I figure that they must not have liked my Yankee accent and Yankee ways.

Anyway, good luck BN.

As most cars today, that car has a Uni-body frame. It doesn't have an actual separate frame, as trucks and older cars do.
They are very strong in most instances.
One draw back is when they are put on a lift or jack, they must be supported in very specific areas.
That frame was bent either when in was left dangling off the loading dock, or when and how it was lifted to get it off the dock.

A good frame & body shop can fix that. Good Luck!

Might have been the hairdo.:eek::D:D:D:D:
AH's leading fashion critics have spoken. I have only to obey. My next visit to the salon !!! :D is going to yield different results. Wait a minute. You're not bald too, are you? Now that I think about this a little more, taking hair style advice from bald people is like taking g/f advice from single guys. :p

Back to the car: I'm with Rick about the body shop for straightening this out. I want to hear from BN as to the outcome of all this.

Pretty soon Seth is gonna show up demanding to know WTF is going on here.

Maybe we could try to roll a little religion into this thread to go with the gay sex and politics for a speedy closing like the rest of poor Buckeye's threads. :D

I seriously want to know about the car. I don't know why except that I maybe like cars. For the most part cars like me too. :)

There are 'point to point' measurements on a Unibody that get checked, and triangulated.
If those distances don't match what they should be, it means the body is racked or bent. (sounds like the tire shop noticed that)
Those repairs are done on a frame machine which is a platform onto which the vehicle can be clamped. It also uses hydraulic rams which will pull specific anchor points that the body has back into alignment.

It would be nice if it was as simple as a bent control arm; though I think the tire alignment shop would have fixed it, if it was that easy.
This should be interesting.:)

I'm hoping for Buckeye's sake that it doesn't have to go on a frame rack.

Yeah, that's right Alex. I said frame rack.:D

For 800 dollars he could have had Michelin tires. For far less you could have gotten Kuhmo tires. I just got a set of Kumho Ectsa tires for 380 including shipping from. Tirerack.com they shipped them to a local NTB for me and the whole deal cost me 460. I got much better rated tires, lower cost, and better service actually. A guy who orders his own tires gets treated a little differently I guess.

I know it's too late for the Nut, but for the rest of you check it out when tire time comes.
I have wide 18" rims that are an oddball size. (few tires fit them) All being expensive soft rubber performance tires.....

With that said, I heard from the dealer this morning. The right/rear suspension was bent. I don't remember exactly what he said was bent, but the total for 2 tires/parts/labor and alignment is roughly $660. ($425 of that is 2 tires) Believe it or not...I am VERY HAPPY!! I thought the suspension problems would cost MUCH, MUCH more......

Because I have 51k on the car, I also told Mr. Goodwrench to check bumper to bumper for recommended maintenance. So far...the only thing I've done is change the oil and I'm certain I will get new brakes...etc, etc...The brakes will cost a pretty penny because they're oversized & heavy duty. I'm guessing the total will be $1,000-$1,200 when it's all said and done....we'll see.....

I'm very happy today:)

Hey...I've looked......believe me. I've searched many places...IE.. costco.com, walmart.com and a bunch of other discount places too. Once you input the year/make/model.......the results all come up pretty much the same. Tires are all expensive...

It's a 2008 Impala SS...go look for youself...LOL Don't forget the SS...because that makes all the difference in the world because the SS rims aren't your typical stock rims. They're definitely not the same as the standard Impala rims.

Just as an example, these are the results for the Walmart Tire center. Who can be cheaper than Walmart, right??????
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/tires_results.gsp?Flag=TiresV&cat=0&com.wm.www.handler.AddressCollector_state=--&com.wm.www.handler.AddressCollector_zip=64064&dept=91083&make=CHEVROLET&model=Impala+SS&tire_diameter=18&tire_equivalent_load_index=0&tire_load_index=97&tire_load_range=&tire_ratio=50&tire_size=&tire_spec_selected=true&tire_speed_rating=W&tire_type=&tire_width=235&vehicle_path=true&year=2008

My car has Goodyear Eagle GT's (speed rated to 168MPH...HEH)..... but no mileage rating is offered. LOL
Translation....soft rubber performance tire.

With that said, I have to admit...these are sweet @ss tires. These ain't nothing like the tires you'll find on a little Hybrid or grandma'ma's sedan......LOL

Yes, I recommend at least semi-performance tires on ANY car. Standard tires are just junk; poor traction - VERY poor traction. I now use V rated Falken Ziex tires on my 2006 Stratus. It came with Eagle LS H rated tires originally; but they are mediocre at best (and even the Eagle LS are far better than those cheap budget tires you can get for $40 each that slide/slip all over the place; lol). The Falkens made a huge difference ; the car grips all road conditions from wet to dry much better now. I have bought the cheap budget tires in the past (for another car) and was very sorry. It's almost like someone greased by tires. :)
