$800 for tires that last 4 months.......

It recently occured to me that I should get my new tires rotated. I decided to make a quick inspection, and to my shock and dismay......the back tires are toast. My car is FWD, so I was very surprised to discover my back tires had all the wear. They are similar to my previous set of tires, and I got 40K out of them without ever rotating. It sucks, but the only tires that are available for my rims are soft rubber tires.

I took my car to Goodyear where I purchased the tires. My car is FWD, so it's not like I ruined the back tires doing burnouts. Something must have happened to my alignment....... I was talking to the GY-store manager about taking the car to the dealer to get the alignment inspected....and he was like...."Don't do that, we'll check your alignment for free."...something or other.

I don't know if I trust GY that much.... We'll see. My car is 20 months old and has 50k miles....so may still be under it's bumper to bumper warranty. For now I am doing nothing. I am out of town enjoying my Christmas.

Bwahahahaha.....excellent observation!!!! My wife and I discussed my little "loading dock incident". with regard to my recent tire wear problems. Strangely.....the left rear is the most worn, and it never left the ground. But yea.....I think the two events may be related.

Buckeye, highly recommend spending a little extra and just upgrading your wheels and tires. I was in a similar situation where the only tires for my car were either OEM (junk) or some that were about 270 a piece. I spent a little more for some nice wheels that will fit a better all-weather tire that will last considerably longer. If you decide to get just new tires, I would look at bridgestone instead of GY. You have a lot more choices than I did though. You could even get into a nice Michelin.

Those Good-Year RS-A tires are not cheap. I had them on my Escort ZX2. Fortunately, I sold the car at 40K or so, but it still didn't need tires at that point. However, I'm sure within 10K, it would have been due for a set.

either your rear alignment is out. your brakes are not working correctly. or you are letting someone else use the car, and they are abusing it.

Geez....I think I have a big repair bill coming. I finally got back in town and took my car to Goodyear today to get it checked......they did....and they don't even want to touch it
What surprises me is the car showed no signs of damage. It drove perfectly straight/true, and vibration free after my little dock incident. I've even driven at high rates of speed since (it was an empty stretch of road..no trafic)and the car drove smoothly as can be.

After my GY visit, I dropped the car off at the dealer today and I suspect the worst.. We'll see.... I have a rental car for now and hope to know more by tomorrow. I suspect I'll be driving this rental for awhile....just saying.

PS....I do not recommend anyone drive their car off a loading dock. You may think the car is OK afterward....but the true damage will eventually present itself in due time. The front is out of whack too....GY suspects the frame may be bent/twisted because the allignment test results were so out of whack.

Don't be surprised if the dealer charges you $23,000 for the repairs (roughly scaling the amount of work and parts up from a mere thermostat replacement).

For 800 dollars he could have had Michelin tires. For far less you could have gotten Kuhmo tires. I just got a set of Kumho Ectsa tires for 380 including shipping from. Tirerack.com they shipped them to a local NTB for me and the whole deal cost me 460. I got much better rated tires, lower cost, and better service actually. A guy who orders his own tires gets treated a little differently I guess.

I know it's too late for the Nut, but for the rest of you check it out when tire time comes.

Should be under insurance I'd think, but driving off a dock is crazy.
