I will apologize up front, I'm sure you guys get asked all the time which speakers one should buy. Nonetheless, I really don't know what to do. Here's my situation. I currently have a Pioneer Elite 50" plasma. I now want to add to it. I think I'll go with either a Denon 2310 or the Marantz equiv. receiver. I have wired for 7.1 but I can run 5.1 one for now. They will be on wall mounted. The room is a longer basement room with one half as the theater half and the other half is for kids toys, pool table and such.

In my town, there are two dealers. One sells KEF, Klipsch, and Sunfire. The other sells Definitive Techs and two others but I can't remember what they were. I do know that they said the Def Tech were their best speakers.

Most of the time the theater will be used for movies, probably not so much at all for just music listening. We like action movies, so good bass is important but I really want to experience the sound coming at you from the sides and the rear and not just blown away from the front, if that makes sense.

So, I guess the question is, which of the the above mentioned brands should I be looking at or is there another brand that I should try to look at? I'm completely lost with the speakers and I'll admit that it can be a little frustrating. ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks again.

Ah yes, was in a hurry and forgot to mention that. $2400 is pretty much my limit. In the meantime, I have been looking at the SVS line up. The reviews I have read look good. I wish that I could hear them somewhere. I really like that they are mostly made right here in the USA. I was thinking of getting SCSs for the fronts and a SCS centre, SBSs for the surrounds and rears, then adding the PB12-Plus sub. Any thoughts about that set-up?

That SVS setup sounds pretty good. Whatever you do, go with a internet direct dealer for the subwoofer, do not buy the sub at a store. It is such a greater value. Look at SVS, Hsu research, Elemental Designs, Outlaw Audio for great internet direct subs and speakers.

On speakers, retailers can be competitive, sometimes. The SVS speakers may not necessarily be better than the Deftech speakers, although their sub most certainly will be (unless we are talking about the Trinity).

For speakers, a couple other great internet direct companies to look at are Emotiva and Ascend Acoustics. Also, Aperion Audio.

Also look into the NHT - their subs are cheap and they rock.
1. Classic U2 Subwoofer System - Dual 12" woofers. Includes NHT A1 amplifier and X1 electronic crossover. Price: $1,099.00
2. four of these Two Bookshelf Speaker Price: $249.00 X 4 = 996
3 TwoC Center Channel Speaker Price: $299.00

total = 1099 + 299 + 996 = 2394$

Right on the money!!!

Or you can use Twelve 200W Subwoofer and save some money.

Just look at NHThifi.com

Svs

While a little lacking in the dynamic range for music the SVS setup is the best I have found for Home Theater (HT). That is why I purchased the setup below, just did not have the money for the more expensive system that you are considering. While watching movies it feels as if you are there and the sub can literally shake the house. I would not change a thing, just possibly look for a nice pair of speakers for 2.0 listening at loud levels. As far as movies and TV at any level can't be beat unless you pay 4 to 5 times more. I paid approx $1400 shipped for my SVS system and I am extremley happy.:D

I see myself using the speakers mainly for movies. So, I ordered three SCSs and four SBSs with the PB12-Plus sub. I'm excited, hopefully the Marantz SR5004 I picked up last night will run it all nicely. I have a Pioneer Elite 50" plasma, so now I need a good BD player and I should be set. Can't wait for em to show up. SVS was super nice and easy to work with. I got all that I wanted and was able to stay under my budget. :cool:
