Vent: "what speakers should I get"

OK. Perhaps this is on-topic enough for the steam vent.

How can there be so many basically the same question within hours of each other?

I mean, I understand specific questions ("will I have problems with speaker A wall mounted in a X-by-Y room"), and even "I'm torn between speaker A and B", but there are so many "I've got [$600-$1200] what should I buy", often with almost no more information than that.

That those show isn't even the frustrating part: it's that there's a thread just like it started an hour earlier and the exact same question gets asked.

Yes, I don't have to go look. Often I don't. But I mean... just look one thread up!!!

Perhaps a sticky to tell people to read the stickies :p

Yes this is the danger of naming conventions.

If the site was called www.angrydrunkstrippersreview.com the question would likely be "so I have $300 to blow, would you go with chastity or Honey-Blossom?".

Much like the current state of affairs in the White House, people are lost, turning to the experts for answers...they are at our mercy....:)

I think maybe one too many cocktails for me this evening.....

That's no fair to put up a link to a website with a name like that when it doesn't exist. :)

Easy answer, though. Chastity has the edge, but you can get both for $300 on two-for-Tuesdays. So, if you're willing to wait, that's the ticket.

I know I posted a topic like that before my subwoofer purchase, but I am sure that I had browsed all of the similar titled topics before hand and I really had specific questions. So I think it really depends on the post. The "I need a speaker in this price range" post is pretty lame, but if they have a bunch of specifics that they want to ask I say it's really not all that bad.

A lot of budgets are so low that 'recommend' is a strong word. I understand people are on a budget, especially with the economy, but a 7.1 speaker setup for 1500? I could maybe put one together, but, it wouldn't be one that I would 'recommend.' A lot of times I go into the thread ready to make some recommendations based upon tastes and setup, but their budget is so low that it just becomes what is the cheapest thing that will make some noise.

It's December and these people are shopping. Most of them will be gone before New Year's. And then soon after they'll be replaced by the TV shoppers who get sucked in to the ads for the pre Super Bowl TV bargains.

Have patience...

Hear me out guys, what if during the whole registration process an advice screen where to pop up and say here is a list of prices that is recommended for a budget for an entry-level HT, mid-level HT and a high end level HT. So they know what budget they need, if they have it great and if not they already know they have to save.

I like the idea, but how often does the average person read the "click to accept" things that slow them from installing a program, completing a purchase, etc?

I say we just make a FAQ/Sticky/Shopping Guide where we break down popular speakers (or TVs) into budget categories ($300-600) and just direct users to that thread.

Damn you just had to expose the flaw in my otherwise perfect plan:D. Well there has to be something that can be done.

I like the way you think but do think $300-600 is enough.

Yeah it's that time of year where everybody and their mother sends you a fruitcake. In stead of sending someone a fruitcake give them the finger it's the same thing.HAHAHA!!!

And if you are feeling generous give them 2 fruitcakes.

Hey sometimes one nice person ruins it for everybody. Then you have a cat tearing up the place.
