Suprised no one mentioned it, Amazon's had it for $15.99 for the past month. I was under the impression the movie itself, while having excellent PQ and AQ, wasn't very good. Did I hear wrong?

I knew about the amazon price... guess I should have mentioned it. I actually like the movie itself, but of course everyone has their own opinion.

I liked it more than G.I Joe but less than Star Trek. Star Trek, despite some strong geek raging on Gene's part:p, was a good movie IMO....one of the better ones this year. T:Salvation was a good action flick and the story moved along at a nice clip, I'll be watching it again when I get a my project sub finished.

I purchased it the day it came out. I printed out WalMart's price online which showed $15.39, or somewhere around there (I know it was in the 15.30's) and took that to BB and they price matched it. The reason I do this is that Walmart will not price match their own website (at least the one that I go to and is convenient for me) so I let BB do it, and since I have rewards with BB I get gift cards down the road.

I don't know why exactly, but my wife absolutely loved this Star Trek movie even though she absolutely hates all the other Star Trek movies, all the Star Wars movies, and 99% of all Sci-Fi movies.:D

Oh, she didn't like Terminator Salvation either, but I liked it a lot.

Friends;

My bro rented this from Blockbuster and he claims the R rated version was blocked as were all the special features and menu items. He called Blockbuster and they claimed this is purposely done on rentals to force consumers to buy the copy. Can anyone verify this?
Blu-Ray or DVD?

Either way that sucks if it's true.

In the retail package, there are three disks. The Director's cut has only the movie and no speical features.

Just got my 3-Disc T4-Salvation BD yesterday from Best Buy for $15.34.

I have to say that the DTS-HD MA Soundtrack of this movie is the BEST I have EVER heard @ 90dB!!!

It is better than Dark Knight, Transformers 2, and every single movie out there I've seen.

It's another reason why Home Theater is A LOT better than the movie theater.:D

That Sam Worthington sure is a great actor. I can't wait to see AVATAR and CLASH OF THE TITANS:

The director of TITANS also directed The Incredible Hulk 2008.

Yeah, I watched this last night/earlier tonight and thought the sound and picture quality were among the best I have seen. They had some style to the film, but every scene looked great, and the sound quality was spot on with the dynamics. Dialog was recorded perfectly, no annoying mic noise like you can hear in so many movies lately. And the action scenes had heart-pounding sound. The movie itself was pretty good too... Christian Bale always does a nice job.

Agree on all points. The sound (especially the LFE) is a new reference standard. Watched a BB rental but I will be buying this one.

Yeah, I'm going to order it on Amazon. I own zero Blu-Rays (I've used Netflix since the beginning), but I want to start to get some really good ones just to have them for demo material.

I was mostly impressed with how they balanced everything. Even in the middle of action sequences they would have enough 'breathing' room where the next explosion or gunfire or something would really pop. The machine gun fire in this was the best yet. The bass would cut when you'd see the gun moving or something and then when it would fire it would really have a dramatic influence. Versus most sound in movies now the bass would be as the gun turns, as the gun fires, after the gun fires.... Without the contrast, I think impact gets lost. This movie, imo, had the contrast of the sound down really well.

The use of the rear channels was immersive but not distracting.

Watching it now. It's the first "new" BD that I've watched fresh running the new SC-27 in my set up. I'm really enjoying it, and the LFE rocks.

my brother watched this one a few days before i did.
i asked him if you were to choose a movie between T3 and T4 that you were required to watch 3x a day for 3 days ... which would he choose. he could not give an answer.

after watching it for myself, i have to conclude that it would be T3.

it was an OK movie, but not a good terminator movie.
I totally agree!!

....and this is coming from a big fan of the Terminator franchise who has watched the first 3 installments too many times to count. I will take it a step further by saying that I was hugely disappointed. Yea, it was OK and worth a friday night rental, but this franchise has lost it's luster without it's lead Terminator. And no...that 5 second CGI cameo didn't cut it....LOL

Just bought this movie from best buy for $20.00 on sale as a Blu Ray, and I am impressed. This is the first BR I've watched with my new sound system and it's intense. I could barely turn it up without pissing off the neighbors again, the very first scene was the best with the helicopters, but there was one sound that actually irritated me and scared me once you heard it, and that was the noise that you kept hearing at the prisoner facility, that really low pitched "nnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggg" like two steel girders rubbing on eachother.

That I can offer some insight on, the movie used a lot of LFO. It's basically a warble/wobble sound, but often done very deep for a foundation with a higher pitch warble on top. A lot of the noises the 'machines' make are LFO based.

*edit* I realized that was a great description ...so...
LFO for low-frequency oscillation. It's usually used with sub-bass sine waves, then an octave up, LFO to give the bass depth and unease, and the in the mid-bass the gritty, terrible saw waves with a bunch of LFO. In music the electronic producers figured out in the 70s and 80s that just bass doesn't really have enough depth and sounds very similar, so layering LFO on top gives it individuality and personality. More recently, drum and bass and dubstep producers started using a ton of it, and now I've started seeing it in movies more often. The right combination of LFO with sub-bass can make people very uneasy at high volumes.

Check this song out, listen to the bass:

0:34, 0:47 ...you can hear it really good at 0:53 ... listen the the pulsating of the bass. This is a bit lower frequency than the movie uses, but you can hear how when the frequency is raised it starts to sound like the machines and a lot of the sounds they used in that movie.

This tune has a lot of LFO also:

Hear what I mean?

Is that the sort of sounds you are talking about?

Sounds about right. But my computer is not hooked up to any kind of sound system, so it's hard for me to tell. The noise, if I remember played maybe 3 or 4 times in the whole movie and it's very overpowering. IT was this random output noise the harvester terminator made sometimes. Really loud, and really low pitched. And you're right, it is like a warble sound, like a steel ship rubbing against another one or something.
