Fantastic power inlet solution.

I have been bashing my head against the wall trying to find a good solution to do a power inlet/ outlet on my TV wall.

I wanted something that I could put in a double gang box with a regular outlet. I want to minimize the number of wall plates on the wall in the event I decide to place things somewhere else in the future.

I was just about to give up when I found a company that actually pulled their head out of their *** and designed something useful.

Midlite makes this product and the entire kit is for sale on Amazon.

The inlet and outlet are both decora style, which allows them to be used with any standard decora style wall plate, including 2, 3, 4, and 5 gang wall plates. This will allow me to put the inlet in a 2 gang box with a regular outlet down low, and the outlet in a two gang with a low voltage divider up top. Leviton makes a decora insert I will use up top at TV level. It is an opening with little brushes on either side that allow you to pass low voltage wires into the box and through a conduit.

It's a nice (though expensive) 'homeowner' solution.
It's a good way to go if a homeowner lacks the skills or doesn't want to mess with electrical wiring. They are charging $46.00 for parts that can be had for around $10.00

Arlington makes dual-voltage old work boxes with a low voltage trim ring on one side, too. That way, no divider is needed. Then, a Decora/Keystone plate and inserts (for terminating the cables) or a nose plate can be used.

It's not a live leg but it still needs to be wired correctly so homeowners should admit when they don't know what they're doing. It's kind of steep but compared with calling in a contractor, it's not so bad.

www.partsexpress.com has the recessed double box (not the whole kit) for $17. I used them for my dad's recent install. The "instant wire" kit is $69, so more than the one on Amazon.

I agree, the stuff is over priced. However for my application, and the prices i found for the parts alone, I think it's my best solution.

I found a few male inlets from Leviton and other companies that could be used, however they were about $15 regardless of where I looked.

Then I would need to find a decora style recessed box with a circular opening, which may exist. However I haven't seen one.

Then I would need to trim the edges off the round inlet to make it fit in the recessed decora box. By the time you add up $15 for the inlet, another couple bucks for the outlet, the time it takes to hunt all the parts down on the internet, then put the whole thing together I'm ok with the $46 price tag. It lets me do exactly as I want in a nice clean install.
