I think LCD would be right need help

I was leaning towards Panasonic Plasma but I think LCD would be a better choice. Right now I have a 50in Samsung Plasma. The reflections on it are bad. My Living room as full sun all day long and my wife like to have all the lights on when watching at night. Due to this issue alone I think I will go LCD.
What is currently the best 52/55in or bigger LCD out there. Brand/model.
We have an old Sony 720p 40LCD in the bed room that is nice for video games but looks awful on SD tv. Never tried it on HD..
Help if you can.

To be honest I don't know if any LCD will be helpful.Most of them have the crazy reflective coatings that eliminate any benefit of better lighting.

I'd suggest you find a tv with the least reflective coating possible. That my well be a Plasma. I do warn you that LCD doesn't look as good and suffers from motion blur and pixelation.

I see reflections in my bezels The panny screens are in line with the Pioneer screens at reducing glare. And as James mentioned LCD screens can be just as bad and I wouldnt want to veiw a display with the contrast cranked up just to get past the glare. I have zero issues watching my display with the front triple window shades drawn

Its unfortunate that you don't have better light control. You will miss the balck levels going to a LCD. I remember having light reflections off my old 32" CRT and it drove me batty.

I have an LCD and I'm happy with it. I don't see the lack of black resolution being a problem unless I was comparing it to a plasma side by side at the same time. I'm happy with mine.

Get the paint brush out and paint the bezel flat black. As far as I'm concerned, all bezels on all TVs whether Plasma or or LCD should be painted flat black. What the hell are manufacturers thinking in framing a non reflective screen with something highly reflective? Its a bit fawked if you know what I mean.

Nope.. for every 1 reflective LCD screen I saw, there were 10 plasmas ahead of it.

I admit Panny does a better job controlling reflection than most plasma's but its still not as good as a good LCD in that departement.

Not any of the ones I've seen and picture was so bad on the Sony, Samsung and Vizio that I saw. That I couldn't bear watching them. Why not a DLPTV. It has no glare issues that I'm aware of.

Oh and just for the record.. Id rather a plasma than an LCD but at the time, Plasma was more expensive than LCD in a 46" + with 1080p. I would have enjoyed the deeper blacks. Viewing angle is not an issue in my setup due to the nature of the room layout.

Sony has a matte bez and screen. I do agree the Panasonic does have a better pic.
Panasonic will be my first choice. It has to better than my Samsung.
My wife however wants the Sony...The Sony is 300 more as well.

I do really like LCD in that bright room however....This is as bad as shopping for a new car!!

I went to Costco and the biggest reflectors were the Panny and Samsung plasmas. The Vizio, least the LCD model I have, SV470M will hands down beat the best Panny Plasma in terms of reflection. Its not even a contest for the Vizio.

Walking into Futurshop and Best Buy, I saw the glare of the lights on the plasma being much stronger than the LCDs. Can you give me the make and model numbers of the LCDs that exhibited the glare you described?

DLPTV from the last Home Theater review of the big Mitsubishi had scaling problems from what I've read.

I never saw a budget stated. If one has around 2k, and wants a 50", I have absolutely no idea whatsoever why one wouldn't get a KRP500M.

However, I'm not sure if the last grain of sand has fallen. Does anyone know? If it has, it must have been very, very recently.

I was under the impression the blur in LCD's is inherent to the technology and can't truly be eliminated, or reduced passed a certain point. And that response time isn't related to blur, that only affects ghosting. That ***Hz gimmick doesn't fix anything either, just makes everything look like home video (which is only good for sports really).

Interesting becuase I don't detect any motion blur in my action DVDs at all. And yes the ***HZ gimmick does work ..thats why I don't see the motion blur

I saw motion blur on the football game last week at a party. But I don't think it's a big deal. he had two LCDs(A Samsung and a Sony) I have no idea what model and I can't estimate size very well because I'm so used to a projector.

My Parents have a 120hz Samsung LCD that has very bad gloss. I can see my face on it when it's off. Honestly I've rarely seen Plasmas and may never own one. If I were forced to get a tv I'd want a DLP one.

I just got a Panasonic X1 and I don't notice much glare, even with lights on and the blinds open. I do notice the loss of blacks since I don't have day/night settings. Doesn't bother me because I can make the room dark if I really want to get into the movie. I would imagine that the S or above series would be at least as good, so the Pannys should work well in your room.
