recently came across this unit the EMOTIVA UMC-1 pre/ processor over the net , and @ the qouted price it looks like a fair deal (abt 600usd ), including shipping to india

are there any users of this new unit

am currently using the onkyo 875 (basically as a pre/processor) as all my channels are routed thro external power amps ,

wud it be wise to replace the onkyo 876 with the EMOTIVA UMC-1 pre/ processor as i cant audition the unit here in india

It should be quite good based upon Emotiva's reputation, but no they are not out yet. I am on the first pre-order list and we've been told that they will probably begin shipping at the end of this month.

I'll let you know how awesome it is when I get it.

i am looking forward to any review as well. However, i would like that review to be subjective and not from an "emo-nut" that claims anything with the emotiva logo on it is the best regardless of the product. trust me, there are some out there!!

not implying anything darien, just looking for an ethical review before throwing dollars at something.

i do have 2 of their amps (xpa-3 and upa-7--but currently selling both) and must state that if their umc is built anything like the amps, then there shouldn't be an issue as far as craftsmanship is concerned.

it is the software/firmware functions i am wanting to know about.

I too should be getting one soon. I'll see if we can get an "Early Look" article up on the Audioholics home page once I get mine.

I did have a good chance to play with a couple of them over the weekend of Emofest '09 which was in September. They are quite impressive. Well worthe the low introductory price of $699. It would be worth getting your name on the waiting list for the second round of shipments due around New Years.

I also have one of the XMC-1's on preorder. It is due in late summer 2010.

EDIT: I just offered my unit up to Gene/Clint for testing if they want. But once it gets installed in my rack, it ain't coming out till the XMC-1 arrives next year. Then the UMC-1 goes to the wife for her bedroom setup.

Be waiting on your report. Not and emo-nut but I am very impressed with my XPA-5. How do they do that for $799?

I'm a "bang for the buck" kinda guy, which is what steered me towards Emotiva in the first place. It's kind of hard not to become an "emo-nut" once you've tried one of their products. True, I only have experience with their amps, (LPA-1, now XPA-5), but I've had nothing but great experience with them.

What makes me love Emotiva is their customer service. When I bought my XPA-5 they let me send them separate checks so I didn't have to pay for it all at once. Even crazier than that, they shipped the amp out as soon as they got my checks!! They didn't wait to cash them all first. And to top it all off, I got my XPA-5 for $599 with free shipping back when they had it on sale briefly!!!

I'm not an audiophile, so I don't know how useful my review will be. But this will be my first pre-pro so I'm pretty excited to see if there will be any sonic differences between the UMC-1 and my Yammie 661. But my main reason for buying it was the flexibility it will give me. I'm really looking forward to being able to set different crossover points for all of my speakers.

I've been waiting a long time for this guy to come out so that I would have something worthwhile to replace my current receiver :) Going to wait until you first round guys get them though and see how it does :D I will also be adding an XPA-3 for the front 3 most likely.
