My retailer gave me a call on Monday to say that my 3007 had arrived but I'm traveling on business right now so I will pick it up on Friday and play with it all weekend long while my wife works (she is a nurse). In the mean time, I bought an Antec Veris A/V cooler so I can keep it cool. I can't wait to get this thing all hooked up and set-up. :D
Hi Ken from the Laurentians (my country of origin), Quebec.

Please, keep in touch with us when you start to play with your new toy. :)

Cheers,
Bob

Hi Lordoftherings, you bet I will... where in Quebec did you live?

I kinda feel like tomorrow is like Christmas or something! LOL
Just got back home from my business travels.

However, before I connect everything I will be treating my room for sound. I believe there is too much echo. I need to either diffuse sound or apply sound absorbers. There is too much wall over my center and between my back surrounds so I read on sound treatment and will be building 1 square foot tiles, 1 inch think that I will be hanging on those walls at 1 inch off the walls. I'll post pics of before and after and I'm sure they will make a major difference.

I should report back on Sunday.

Hi Kennydee,

I was born in Joliette, but I lived in Montreal and also Quebec city, plus Matane, and also in the Laurentians; St-Jean de Matha, St-Melanie, St-Beatrix, etc. And I also lived in the Appalachians; Victoriaville, and Vianney, plus all these areas. And I also travelled many other places in "La Belle Province". :)

This is a great idea to treat your room adequatly with absorbing material to get rid of the echo effects; you are on the right path. :)

Cheers,
Bob

Just a quick question.

What is the best price on that Onkyo TX-NR1007? American dollars.

* In Canada, it is selling for $1,799.00 Canadian dollars!!!
(At Electronics For Less).

Kennydee, may I ask you how much you pay for it, and where? In Canadian dollars?

'Salament!', that's good; only $100 more than the TX-NR1007. Excellent deal!

* But is it now?, that our dollar is on par with the American dollar... ;)

Anyway, you got the goods now, and you can start enjoying it. :)
(Should be even much better after room treatments)

Thanks for the well wishing, same for you. :)

Good Deal

I purchase the 5007 at a very attractive price at shopblt.com. They have the 1007 and 3007 also. Note, this is not an authorized Onkyo retailer so, no warranty. They do have a 30 day return policy for lemons. Service was excellent. Ordered late on a Friday and received via Fedex standard shipping on the following Tuesday.

I just did some research, and the Onkyo TX-NR1007 can be had for $999 US.

That is quite an excellent deal.

* Now! About the TX-NR3007? ;)

SWEET!!!

Now this was a mighty nice weekend.

I spent all day Saturday building my acoustic tiles to reduce the echo. I finished installing them when the hockey game started. "Just in time" I was saying. I had the game on while I placed the receiver in its place and had a chance to listen to the game using it. Needless to say I had some tweaking to do before it would be just right.

Here are the tiles I made with before and after pics.
http://s946.photobucket.com/albums/ad304/Kenneth_dee/

I installed them 1 inch off the wall and the top tile is 2 inches of the wall. The result is amazing. I am very happy with the change and it passed the "acceptable" mark with my wife.

The receiver is heavy but the weight is not evenly distributed. I picked it up from the middle and almost dropped it from a table I had it on (approx 3 feet). I really did skip a beat there...
Later Saturday night, I set up the microphone and let the Audyssey MultEQ room correction do its thing. Once the measurements were done, I found that it was very accurate on speaker distance. The equalizer also did a good job on setting frequencies for my speakers. One thing that I found odd was that it set my speakers at a very low volume. For example, the center channel was at -9db and my sub was at -16db. My surrounds and back-surrounds also were set lower than expected. I manually set the heights at +1, surrounds and back-surrounds also at +1 and all other speakers at 0db. Today, I viewed some parts of the first Transformers movie to test the sound and compare with my Yamaha and I rented the latest Transformers to watch. The sound was pretty good. Although I thought my center channel was a bit soft when playing the movie I put some tunes on and it sounded OK. I used THX PLIIz mode for the movie. The height channels do make a world of difference. I connected the receiver on our home network and gave Internet radio a try and also playing tunes from my computer. Internet radio works fine but I still have to set-up the other network functions. It sees my computer as a server and can play a song from it but the server disappears after a couple of minutes. The remote worked very well recognizing my TV, DVD player and cable box. I can now control all my devices from the Onkyo remote. Now, with time, I will get acquainted with the listening modes.

I am very happy with my purchase. This is a lot of receiver for the money. Very well worth it.

Congrats on the purchase! Onkyo has got to be one of the few brands that offer the most for the buck. How's the heat issue on the newer line?

Thanks marky12,

I installed an Antec A/V cooler on top to keep it cool. I heard that some Onkyo models did run hot so I did not want to take a chance. However, after the movie I watched I placed my hand on the receiver and it was warm but not hot. The Antec cooler does the job very well. I should try without the A/V cooler to see though.

I was saving my cash for a Yamaha RX-Z11 before Onkyo introduced these 9.2 models. My retailer had one at $4600 C$ (B stock mind you). Got the Onkyo at less than half that taxes included. I agree with you.

Thanks Kenny for the first set of impressions. :)

* I also like your tiles for room treatment.

** As for the volume setting from your 3007, Audyssey is doing his stuff;
but don't sweat it, you can manually adjust the channels you want to (like the center channel). It is sometimes for the greater benefit that you can add a db or two. (No studios are doing perfect mixes) ;)

Keep it up,
Bob

You know, there is one little minor thing I would have liked to see on these models and that is a power outlet on the back panel. A switched one to be more precise. Like I wrote, this is a minor thing and easily worked around.

just my 2 cents.

Have y'all a great day.

Hi Kenny,

Yes, you're right; Onkyo, this year, has decided to omit these on all their receivers.

But don't sweat it; it is not a big deal, as it is not really recommended to plug another component there anyway. You'll do much better using a power conditioner or a power bar for that purpose.

* But if the ditto receiver runs quite hot, it's nice to have that AC outlet in the rear,
for adding a fan. It makes life easier, indeed.

** All in all, not a deal breaker in my book.
The Onkyo TX-NR3007 (& the 1007 & 5007) is one of the very best receiver out there still,
and very hard to beat for overall performance and value.

*** Kenny, you own what I consider the very best one that money can buy. :)

Have a great day too & keep in touch,
Bob

Exactly!!! I have a Monster power conditioner coming my way now and will use it. Main reason why I like the switched outlet is that when I'm traveling and my family decides to use the system, a switched outlet with the fan plugged in makes it fool proof. They can't say they forgot to turn the A/V cooler on. Watching my Glorious Habs playing the New York Islanders now. 1 - 0 Montreal :D

Cheers!!
