Oke will get myself a Y adapter then. :D

Yeh the receiver have to pass-trough the signal but i got 1080I instead of 1080P out of mine satelitebox. When i connect the satelitebox with mine tv then i receive 1080P. Dont understand why mayby it has something to do with mine HDMI cable that i bouged extra. Not a biggy yet first i wanna setup the speakers with stands will look later what it can be.
There is no need to get a Y-adapter unless you aren't getting enough voltage to your subwoofer via one line. I'm not sure Bob's reasoning here, but you simply put it in the left most RCA line level input. Don't complicate this with unecessary connectors.

For example I have a dayton 10 inch with a similar amp on the back. I feed a single RCA cable to it's left most input. It works just fine. The reason for the dual inputs is for stereo setups not home theater. Home theater has a single LFE output. Stereo uses the sub to perform the bass of the L/R channels. In a home theater receiver it will perform this function automatically in stereo listening. You only need to set your crossover frequency for the LR channels in the 705's menu.

Isiberian, just try it and you'll see the light. :)

Seriously, it is THEE BEST METHOD, PERIOD. Trust me, I know. That's my job to know things like this, including many more. :) You are basically benefitting of a higher gain, and with complete connections.
Two subs, two Y adaptors...

>>> Using one RCA input jack on your subwoofer (either one, Left or Right, or sometimes the Left one, indicated as the LFE input), is absolutely fine for achieving full performance.
Also, the subwoofer output on many receivers tend to have less gain than main line level outputs, thus the gain control on your subwoofer may need to be adjusted accordingly for proper balance.
[For a slight increase in gain, however, you can use a standard, RCA-type stereo Y-connector to split the mono output into separate left and right inputs on the subwoofer.]
{And, by using both inputs on your sub, you also reduce the risk of "bleeding" distortion from one exposed RCA jack input on your sub.}

*By the way Isiberian, would you like to see some pictures (internal & external) of your Harman Kardon AVR 247 receiver?
I also thought so.

--> It is now included in the thread started by Seth=L, titled "GUTZ! Post your favorite amplifier and receiver innards."
It is on page 3, at post #29, now for the record.

Here's the direct link, just scroll down to post #29, near the bottom of the page.

Okee when i'm at a electronic store i will get a y-adapter i'm wondering if i should hear the difference. In the manual of mine speakers it says that i should use only the left rca jacket.

This evening i have learned some new buttons hehehee found out the sub has a automatic powerbutton :)

In mine receiver:
- i turned mine speakers to 6ohm instead of 4
- all the speakers are set on 120 hz right now standard it was on full band. Gonna play with those options when i have the chance.

Still dont have figure out why i cant output in 1080p (i know its possible cause with straight connection to mine tv i have 1080P)> HDMI monitor out is yes so thats good. You were talking bob that i should set mine HDMI Audio at OFF. But i dont see that options neither in the manual. )Btw why it should be at off cause i got a HDMI 1.3 cable?.)

*Please dont take lots of time to help me on this one, but feel free to post if you think what it could be. When i got some more time probarly this weekend i gonna read that 705 bible(thread) i'm sure i figure it out what it is. In the mean while i'm enjoying the sytem more and more.:D

My good buddy.

Hey dude,

#1. NO, you won't hear a difference, the main benefit is only a small increase in the gain. But in your case, your 705 should already have a sufficiant gain from it's subwoofer output. So, all right, save your money, and buy a six-pack (beers) instead. :) And just follow the instructions for your sub (Left RCA jacket only).

#2. Yeah, your sub got a 3-way power switch. But my advice is to select ON, especially just before you run the Audyssey Room EQ calibration, so your sub won't wake up too late when the test signals reach it. Comprende?
After that, select any position that you like.

#3. On your receiver, the Default position for your speaker's impedance is 6-ohm. You're good there, just leave it at that.
And for the x-over points for your Energy speakers, 120hz seems to be a very good choice. :)

#4. Is there a button on the front panel of the 705 that says "HDMI OUT"?
If yes, when you are playing a blu-ray disc (1080p), just press that button once, twice,... and see what happens.
Now, the "HDMI Audio" has to be set at OFF, because at ON it means that you want to listen to the audio from your TV speakers! Do you now?
That's what I thought also. So, set it to OFF. period! Then, the sound will be output through your receiver HDMI output to your speakers, exactly what you want. If you don't believe me, just try it set to ON. You'll hear nothing anymore coming from your receiver!
* Just read that section in your manual, it is clearly explained black on white.
** In your 705 manual, it is indicated near the end, on the "Advanced Setup", where it says: "Tuner", then "Analog Multich", and finally "HDMI", and right below "HDMI Audio". It's just before the section for "Zone 2 and Zone 3",
about 15 pages or so before the end of your manual.
*** And YES, it should be at OFF, because you are using the HDMI version 1.3 cables to get the high resolution audio codecs for your surround sound.
Like I said, ON is for your TV little tiny speakers. I know it is confusing (a lot of people get screw right there), but that's the way it goes. Don't ask me why, I did not build these Onkyo receivers.

#5. * I am who I am, and I always give the maximum of my time and energy each and every time, that's why I choose my signature name, or whatever you want to call it, LOTR. :) And I'm very proud of that name. Suits me just fine.
>>> And YEAH, do read your 705 bible. Great idea, take your time, and grasp the meaning of what you need to grasp. :)

~ I bet you're starting to enjoy your new system, you pick all the right ingredients. Now, it's just a question of reading, learning all the setups, etc., and finally, FINE TUNING for the rest of your life (ETERNITY). :D:D:D
Then, you become an addict of audio (AUDIOHOLIC :D), and FOR LIFE too.

Enjoy, while you're ALIVE. :D

Love you Gamblet,

Bob

Lo i'm back with some updates :D But first will answer your latest post Bob.

1. If i wont hear the difference then its fine with me and i will keep it like it is now.

2. Good 2 know when using audyssey calibration to put it on. Allready did the calibration atm so got it on auto. Next week i gonna do a calibration again so i keep that tip in mind :D

3. Yeh 120hz seems fine to me. Onkyo recomment Thx 80 hz, if i turn it on 80hz there is a thx logo behind it. But 120 hz sounds better to me. Gonna try some different values to hear the difference if i have some play time left:D

4. No button that says HMDI-out on mine receiver. I think i have seen that option somewere in the setup cause when i changed it, the sound came out of mine tv boxes. Will read the manual about that option later.

5. Yeh i already bookmarked that thread a while ago. Its a great thread were i think people can find everything they need to know about the SR-705.

As for the update got some good news i just called the dealer of mine receiver. Cause he should call me back about the 607 but he didnt. After some bargaing i managed to get €50,- euro back :D

With that money i got 2 speakers stands for free hehhehee Yesterday i boughed these stands that gonna be delivered this week.

Man never though it was hard to find speakers stands for a decent price. €100,- euro for 1 stand is nothing pffffff lucky i found this site -->http://www.icecat.biz/ they got plenty of speakerstands on it and also other things.

Slowly i assembling a pretty nice system hehehe Next in line is finding a tv furniture were i can put mine gigantic receiver in ;)

Have a great weekend all and catch you later.

Cheers Gam

Question for Gambit,

How you like your Energy take classic 5.1 so far?
I am interested in this set as well, but can you tell me where did you find a retailer in the netherlands who would sell it for 499 euro? The only prices i can find are 699 euro.

Greetings from eindhoven

I believe Gamblet (not Gambit by the way) has been away for quite a while now,
as he must be quite happy listening to his Energy Classic Take 5, 5.1 speaker system,
powered by his Onkyo TX-SR705. :)

* Check AVForums from the UK (lot of helpful people there).
And don't forget to say Hi to them from LOTR.

** And by the way, a warm Welcome to Audioholics. :)

Well,

I guess that is a good sign :)
However, I have decided to go for the Canton movie 151 system. You have any experience with this system?
Or do you think the Mordaunt Short genie is a better pick?

Thank you for your welcome :D

^ Nope. No experience at all with that speaker system.
But I know that Canton build excellent high end speakers though,
so that should augure well. :)

Same for Mordaunt Short Genie speaker system, no experience whatsoever, sorry.

May I suggest that you look and ask in the Speaker's section.

Also, as I said in my prior post, you should give a shot at AVForums from the UK; you will get much more help there than here, as they are much more familiar with the speakers that you are inquiring about.

You are very welcome for thanking me of welcoming you. :);)

Hello all it has been awhile since i visit the site.

Im still very pleased with the Onkyo TX SR-705 and the take home classic surround systeem that i bought a year ago with your advice.

Got some questions and i was wondering what you will say about it. I getting a new house soon and want to know what the best positions are for setting up the 5.1 surround system (see image). I added on the image options A and B. The best place for a subwoofer is a corner, isnt it?

Beside the positions i also are wondering if it is possible that the Onkyo 705 reconise the signal from a device when its put on and automaticly select the right setup. For example when i put on mine dvd can it automaticly play the sound and image (without selecting the dvd input first).

Well thanks in advange !!

how to

LISTEN TO SPEAKERS, they are like a bottle of wine. Different for every palate. I wouldn't tell you what speakers to buy, you don't have my ears, but I will say this. speakers from a dedicated speaker maker. thats how they stay in biz. They will likely outlst the amp anyway, especially if you pick Onkyo. Look at Denon, Marantz and Yamaha. Reliable and especially with denon and yamaha easy to setup. Speakers first!!!

Uhmm im past that station a time ago. Allready got mine speakers and receiver (see above post). Just had a lil question about positioning mine speakers. But i have red that the best setting is when they have the same distance to the centre. So think option A is best.

I see A and B, but I'm at a loss, because I don't know where any specific speaker goes, such as center, mains, surrounds. Too hard to guess. Be more specific.

I really have no idea what you are asking. Be MUCH more specific.

I take it you live somewhere else besides the US, because of your atrocious spelling. Where are you from?

Hey Jostenmeat,

Thanks for your reply, i'm from the Netherlands soz for the spelling :D

The letters A and B represent two positions for the front and the back speakers. Its a 5.1 systeem so the middle speaker goes above or under the TV.
For as far the subwoofer goes i dont have much choice (lack of room) probarly on the left or right site of the tv (between a front speaker and the tv or under a frontspeaker).
Hope i have been more clearer now.:)

Mine other question is:

Is it possible with the Onkyo SR705 that when i for example watch TV and i put a dvd in mine dvd player the receiver automatic switch from TV to Dvd?

Cheers
