yes, it has come a long way. 1 year ago i was looking for a cheap 5.1 receiver to replace my 15y/o yammy pro-logic, lol.
now, look what YOU GUYS have done to me ! THANX :)

i wish i had gottin into FP's a long time ago. but, at the same time, it looks like i got into it at just the right time. as far as "bang for buck" goes. correct me if i am wrong.

yes. those lights/reflections can be distracting, but not a problem for me yet.
with all the light coming off the screen, i don't see any of that. unless i go looking for it.
the side walls are a problem. when i darken those, and then the ceiling. the image is just going to bash me in the face.

I might consider building a false wall of sorts... maybe even with a recessed "shadow box" of sorts. Frame something up, use acoustically transparent material, and all of a sudden no electronics or speakers in sight. :)
is this me thinking out loud ? (if so)
nah. i paid a lot of money for my gear, and it is nice gear. i want to see it.

LOL. Oh . . . I KNOW . . . exactly what you are talking about. I came from an HTIB . . . to a multi row theater and separate stereo. With hundreds of pounds of treatments overall.

Well, in one sense, the later you join, the more bang for buck, but ya gotta jump on board at some point. If I told you that your PQ would be a lot better for $500 less, just two years from now, would you put your PJ up for sale? Of course not. OTOH, yes, the last several years marked an enormous shift in PQ value. Huge. JVC and Epson particularly have spearheaded this movement.

Cool. Hm. Well, I'm assuming the bulb is brand new. I'd expect a significant drop off in brightness after 200-300 hours. Every bulb differs a bit I suppose. You can also consider moving the PJ further back, implementing an ND filter (if possible), or a lower gain screen. Also, if you paint your walls, you'll want to recalibrate anyhow.

Fair enough. If I did it all over again, I might have a false wall.

what is a shadow box ?
I put that term in quotation marks, because it's not exactly accurate. What I really just meant to suggest was to have the screen area be recessed, so that the components can sit exactly where they are, if so desired.
