Monkey at my house....

I'm back in Oklahoma. All the jokes aside let me tell you how this went. As Davemcc already suspects; once you rub elbows with the Dawg ... you instantly save a thousand dollars on something. Moving on, Carolyn accompanied us to a high end audio shop where we heard Money for Nothing on Paradigm Sig 6 (?) speakers in 2.1 and B&W 804's in 2.0 but in different rooms. I can't do an audition justice like Swerd and the boys but I will say that I enjoyed both very much.

The shop has been around since before I was born. Our salesman (forgot his name ) was old enough to go back 30 some odd years and spent a good bit of time with us going over the history and some of the items in their mini museum.

Playing Beethoven's Ode de Joy, the Studio 100's adequately powered by a Rotel amp impressed me with a dynamic range and clarity that I didn't think possible. PD's system opened my eyes to some of the possibilities of Audyssey, music servers and jazz.

This was a top notch day. ;)

It puts the lotion on its skin...................:D
You're a real sicko, you know that? :D

Should somebody go around to the Dawg's house to untie him and let him out of the basement?

There isn't a basement in his house.

You know how we all more or less agree that wire doesn't matter? That speaker wire that he's posted pic's of does matter. That stuff looks good. First of all it's really fat and lays right up against the wall up, straight as an arrow, right up until it bends to go up to the binding post. That bend has the cable looking like you needed a conduit bender to make it and then of course this is where it gets ugly. PD's bi-wire badge of shame is displayed here.

Normally you would never see this but if you were already sniffing around and had gotten past noticing the effort it took to get all this to look effortless, it would not fail to impress.

Oh, this guy spends a lot of time in his attic ... in August ... in Texas. I kind of like that.
Have all the nice stuff you want and have it looking good ... but suffer for it. :D

I definitely have the impression that Greg is an A-type, on-the-go personality that puts a lot of time and energy into everything he does. He would be appalled at my laziness.

Probably when nobody is looking.

He was pretty laid back during my visit but things don't get to be 'just so' without effort. Now tomorrow I'm gonna be headed back there to just hang out while he's at work. :D

Maybe I'll take up drinking because I will need something to do while lounging around by the pool. Where is PD by the way? I would like to know the artists and titles of those songs he demos with and what series Denon that rec'r is. I've got equipment lust pretty bad right now. I remember the big fuss made over that on screen GUI, I think it was called. Can you turn that off? I'm always turning my volume up and down during a movie an I don't know if I would want it on the screen. Do we have rec'rs out there that are 4 or 6 ohm stable? That Rotel sucks up some serious real estate. No big deal in a house but I am just wondering because I'm in a condo.

Stop by here when you pick up the oven and you can take my external hard-drive home and copy all that fine jazz and then mail it back to me.

Yes you can turn off the GUI on the Denon 3808CI (I think you can anyway, I never read the manual.

You don't need an AVR that is stable at low ohms, you need an amp.

Ice amps? That Rotel is like a monolith. :D

PD, I'm gonna stop by there to drop off some 1800 or Glenlevit anyway. If you're home maybe you do that computer voodoo to my laptop and teach me something in the process.

I got the cooktop installed last night after I installed the belt tensioner and air cleaner cover on my Focus. Productive day for me and the cooktop was a real crowd pleaser. It's like having a DeLorean parked in the kitchen.

Now she's talking dishwasher. I wish that she would have been as liberal with the speaker budget.
My equipment fever fever just got cranked up a notch.
It burns.

I hope someone remembers that I like Anejo...heck, I have been drinking Tequila all summer, I bet Scotch would taste better...

It's almost like that Monkey can read my mind. I was in the backyard on a conf. call and walked in the house as a black truck was pulling away from my house. I walked out the front door and found two packages waiting for me. One was a fine single malt scotch and the other was a crappy Oklahoma beer named " Texas Suxs". Both were adorned in a gay pink and purple bow.

I was able to call Alex before he got too far away so he turned around and we spent a little more time talking, downloading music and making coffee. Now that he's gone, I am going to enjoy some scotch.

He also gave us a fine hardwood screen that I think he hand carved when he was overseas. (That's the story we told Carolyn anyway)

That's a long drive.
I'm like the guest who wouldn't leave. :D
I hope that screen finds a home but it just couldn't stay in Oklahoma any longer. ;)
Now it's your problem. :)

Totally unrelated but this is the 2nd or 3rd time that I've seen 100 foot long propeller blades strapped to a tractor trailer. I guesstimated the length but they are long. They have to be for one of those wind farm power sources.

Lots to do here. I'm gonna have to treat this like a 10 or a 12 hour a day job for my remaining time here to really make an impact. They want to move the home theater on top of everything else.Tomorrow is gonna be all about business.

Where's Adam?

She told me to move the screen to the garage so I guess its home is not here.:(

If you notice, the tractor trailers transporting those "blades" travel in 3's as there are 3 blades per windmill.

About time you do some work, it's good for you or so I heard.

I find the funniest part of your visit occured at the AV store. The comment you made- sticks in my head for some resaon and makes me laugh.

We were looking at a room full of DLPs and then we walked into a room with a "torch mode" LCD playing HD. There was a movie playing that had a chicken running around. Alex simply looked at the display and said "Man that looks so good, I could eat that chicken". He just seemed so serious when he said it, it wasn't a joke or anything but it was funny.

I am glad Alex enjoyed the AV store. After he left I expressed to Carolyn that I was somewhat disappointed in the store. I have stayed out of there for the past year but a lot has changed in that year. They used to have a lot more gear in there. It was always full of the entire lines of B&W, Paradigm, DT, MA, Velodyne, Anthem, Mark Levingston, Rotel, McIntosh. Now it seems like they have about half the gear and mostly mid-line Paradigm and B&W speakers and Pioneer and Yammy AVRs along with a lot of McIntosh stuff. The main focus looks to be flat panel displays and big DLPs. The owner's Son, who was my contact there, also has left the store.

After I thought about this the next day, I understood that it is just a sign of the times and assume that this "adaption" is what has kept this store in business for >30 years.

One thing I wanted to do and forgot about was to take you to see Toby. Toby is a custom speaker maker that has been around here for a million years. He builds all his stuff by hand and is a very strange little man. His stuff is not that pretty but it is interesting and sounds so good it will make you cry. You would enjoy talking to him and listening to his stuff.

firmly planted on the straight and narrow. Like this rash ...

I'm tempted to say that my 10 inch Infinity smokes your Dawg Crusher. :D

What impressed me was that Audessey dynamic EQ business where your bass sounds good at any volume. Oh yeah, I just remembered you playing something and I could actually feel that rumble and having it bring about the instant smile. I know about a walking issue and a rattle issue but I can't imagine how far you have to push it for that to occur. Here's the other thing. When we listened to the Sig 6's, you knew that something was off in the way of a center channel being used. To me it all sounded great. You hearing may be more discerning than mine or at least more practiced.

It all get's to be the best I've ever heard so there's not a lot of room for comparison. I have heard tcarcio's multi sub affair and it smoked my dual 10's easily. That mini fridge looking thing you use easily out does his and that's in a much bigger room to boot.

I think you need some room treatments. :p

I gotta go back to work.;)
