DTS-HD MA & TrueHD Bitstream via ATI HD 5870 Video Card

No, I haven't had a chance to compare yet, but TrueHD sounds great, especially since I modified the dynamic range compression settings. But all the movies I have watched that are in dts-hd ma have sounded good... maybe I'm just not listening hard enough. I'm not too worried about it though, since next year when the new low end ati cards come out, and I'm sure they too will allow bitstreaming, I'll have one of those in my media pc and won't have to worry about anything.

Yeah, BITSTREAMING is the BEST - the ONLY way we are guaranteed that it is not dynamically compressed or downsampled or whatever.:D

We are hardcore.

Yeah, I don't think my girlfriend understands why I get so excited about bitstreaming lol, she must think I'm the biggest nerd hahaha, but I don't care... I try to explain it to her, but she just stares like a deer in headlights. It's ok, that's what the forum is for, to share news and excitement like this.

My wife can't tell the difference between a tv speaker and the ones I built myself.:(

She doesn't understand my obsession with this at all.

That is pretty bad... at least my girlfriend is supportive, and loves bass and surround sound. She even wants a theater room just as bad as I do, so I can't fault her for that.

My wife loves BOSE

Doesn't that say it all?:eek::D

**hee**hee

No Highs...
No Lows...
My wife loves Bose:D

But yeah, seriously, there is no question about whether or not I'm getting one of those ATI 5xxx DTS-HD/TrueHD-bitstreaming sound cards. It's just a matter of TIME. And to be honest, I don't think I can even wait until Christmas!!!

The next step down from the 5850/5870 cards will be released Oct. 23, and not sure about what will come after that. I'm very anxious to get my hands on one too, but I will have to wait till I can get a card that doesn't need external power connections since I don't have a very strong power supply.

I don't even know if I can wait that long.:D

I'm thinking like in 1 week or 2 weeks.:D

I can't wait either, but I don't have much choice, I don't have a PC that can utilize the 5870, nor can I afford it right now. I'm currently saving up for a Dell XPS 9000 with a Core i7 processor. At least you have the Asus Xonar card that allows you to bitstream.

Oh, sorry, did I forget to tell you the Asus card caused some compatibility with my PC? After a few hours of watching BD, my PC would crash. So I sold it.

I just placed an order on amazon.com for the VisionTek Radeon HD 5850 for $279. Of course, they don't have it in stock yet. But hopefully they will by next week.

Hardcore, man. Hardcore.:D

You are hardcore :). What's crazy is that the HD 5850 cost less than the Xonar and it does high-end video too.

I guess we should expect the price of the Xonar and the azuntech cards to drop very soon.

Nah, they will still sell to self-proclaimed audiophiles that don't understand that an expensive sound card with expensive op-amps won't sound any better with digital audio than the onboard (or on video-card) sound. :D

I wouldn't discount the DAC's on the Xonar HDAV 1.3 Deluxe...

Oh I am not, but what I was getting at is that most won't be using the DACs on the Xonar, they will be using the ones in their AVR or Processor and using HDMI digital audio out of the Xonar...

I use an analog output on my sound card, that is why I don't use onboard sound, but there really would be no reason to have spent the money on the card if I was going digital to the receiver...

Major set back

I am.:D

After using it for a while, I didn't think it was all that. They may be using the Burr-Brown PCM1796 DACs, but I think their implimentation is somehow not all that impressive. Thumbs down for me.

Well, guys, I had a major set-back!

I had to cancel my order for that new Radeon HD 5850.

Why?

Well, on Saturday night, I went to a Jeep dealership and bought a used 2007 Jeep Commander 4WD Sport w/ 7 clothe seats.

Why?

So that I can fill up my 3-car garage.

It is silver color and has 36,000 miles. Now I have to save some money so that I can add a $1,500 In-Dash NAV system.

Anyway, that means you guys will probably get the new Radeon 5xxx cards before I will. I'll have to wait until next Summer or something.

Later guys.

So that must mean no new a/v toys at all for you... how are you going to cope, we know you will go into withdraw. I guess you could always sell your current card and put a few dollars extra with it, and just get the 5770 or 5750 when it comes out next month.

Nvidia cards at the moment at least still don't have an audio controller, so I think Xonar prices may stay pretty level until Nvidia launches the GTX300 series, which are thought to have an integrated audio controller with PAP for proper HD audio bitstreaming like the Radeon HD 5850.

Pity Ati launched theirs first, I have always liked Nvida cards better, I just find them more reliable and just generally better.

Yeah, as long as they bitstream PCM, DTS-HD MA, and TrueHD, it's all GOOD.:D

I'm pretty sure all the new 5000 series ATI cards will be able to bitstream.
