Final Fantasy music. Brings back memories.:)
Nobuo Uematsu's FF series soundtracks are VERY high on my list of exquisite sonic narcotics. I have more of his albums than almost any other artist, except Joe Hisaishi.

Uematsu's longer works are like a journey to a far away land, as every phrase, every new motive appears, unlike the last, yet integrated into the work, not as some random theme, but as a meaningful part of the larger work. Not long ago, I bought the DVD "Advent Children". Now it's available on Blu-ray and I may spring for that. Music is often the best part of anime.

Right now it's the new remastered Beatles white album (I didn't capitalize because "The BEATLES" is the real title). The remaster job is fine, clearer than any other Beatles release I have heard. This has the Beatles in a frenzy of creativity, a long album full of amazing loose ends with no overall theme except that they can write any kind of song they want and it will be good.

I think he's the best composer of gaming music ever. The guy is just amazing.

Now I'm listening to Arc the Lad by Yuko Fukushima.

I own the game and never played it, but the music is interesting.

Sounds like you're an anime music afficionado.

Some soundtracks you might also like may include:

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind
The Weathering Continent
Metal Armor Dragonar
Heroic Legend of Arslan
Omohide Poro Poro
Sailor Moon R Symphonic Poem
Evangelion
Macross Original Soundtrack (1983)
Millenium Actress
Please Save My Earth (Hajime Mizoguchi/Yohko Kanno)
Rah-Xephon
Utsunomiko

There are so many others, too, but these are some of my favorites for complex and involving scores. Yohko Kanno is great if you love Jazz. The Cowboy Bebop music has a lot of Jazz tracks. Nausicaä's soundtrack is ethereal--I had an out of body experience the first time I heard it, head rushes and all sorts of weird sensations in the cranial area.

I host a weekly Sunday night program called Adventures in Anime Music on a Connecticut radio station, WQQQ-FM, where I feature a lot of this music. Coming up on 8 years with that radio station. It's also hosted on the net and Toonradio.net carries a syndicated version of the show.

How is it? It never occurred to me that Martin would release a recording.
I have yet to listen to the whole disc yet but what I have heard is remarkably good. Not generally my cup of tea but I remembered seeing him play the banjo years ago and being impressed so I thought I'd give it a try. He is far better than I remember.

Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Strangely great. War on War is one of my favorite songs with all its spacy synthesized sounds. Wilco has a new one out I need to get and I am reviewing their old CDs.
