First Record You Ever Bought

I thought I would give equal time to the old farts (like me) on the forum-my first CDs were all reissues.

Mine was a 45 single of "Little Black Egg" by the Nightcrawlers, which quickly became the theme song of my grade school garage band (no need for a fuzz box-just turn the amp to 11).

The first record I ever had was Michael Jackson's Thriller but I'm pretty sure it, along with all the other records I ever had as a kid, were bought for me.

So with my own money, the first record I can remember buying for myself was The Chemical Brothers' Exit Planet Dust when I was getting into DJing in college.

You think your're a geezer? My first was Elvis' "Don't Be Cruel/ Hound Dog on a 78 in 1956. Played it on one of those Sears phonographs in the cloth-covered wooden boxes.
My, how times have changed:cool:

Tom Petty - Hard Promises was the first I purchased. I was given a couple of those k-tel compilation albums that were popular in the 80's before that.

The first LP I ever owned was The Beatles Second Album, bought for me by my grandparents when I was in grade school.

The first recording I bought with my own money was likely a 45, though I can't remember which one it was.

The first LP I bought was "Share The Land" by The Guess Who shortly after if came out.

My first recordings purchased were 45s...

The first recordings I ever paid for (my allowance) were 45s. No idea what was first but the early 45s were Timothy by The Buoys, Guitar Man by Bread (yeah, sorry), Alright Now by Free, Sweet Home Alabama by LS... and some others.

I think the first vinyl LP I ever bought was Vices/Habits by the Doobie Bros.

But (check this out) my first LP ever (that I got for Christmas from my parents in '68-69-ish) was 'Mr. Spock's Music From Outer Space' by Leonard Nimoy. I ROCK!

I was also given a 2-disk cutout record of Woodstock 2 - Hendrix, CSNY, Airplane, Havens... probably changed my life musically even more than Mr. Spock.

The first LP I bought was "Goofy Gold" through mail order. It had silly fifties and early sixties songs like "Charlie Brown" and "Flying Purple People Eater." I came home everyday from school in 3rd grade looking to see if it came in. I also remember records my parents gave to me like........Star Trek, Space 1999, Six Million Dollar Man, Dracula, Wolfman, Frankenstien, etc......all by some label called Power Records. I had a thing for Sci-Fi. Ironically, I still have nightmares about a 45 that taught multiplication tables (and all of my sister's Osmonds 45's). The Sci-Fi ones were the cool ones!!

It was so long ago that I don't remember the first one that I ever bought. I do remember a 45 of humpback whale songs that came in a National Geographic magazine. It was really thin and square, but it worked. I was mesmerized by those sounds.

this thread is somewhere...look for it harder..
Paul's probably off nursing a hang-over right now... :D

Meatloaf Bat Out of Hell

I bought it because it was cool back in the 70's but I enjoy the album more now.

Is that it then?
Are you looking for some inter species action but the desert isn't coughing up the whale of your dreams? :D

How about the Monkees and Archies records printed on the outside of cereal boxes back in the 60s? You could rot your teeth and your brain at the same time! :D

The first record I remember having was the Monster Mash. This one:

The first album I ever bought was a crazy sax player. I think it was John Coltrane. It may have been somebody even weirder, more bizarre and more spaced out than Coltrane. I can't remember the album exactly because it turned out to be too odd for me and I never listened to it. The first album that I can still remember the actual act of buying was Charlie Parker, "Summit Meeting at Birdland".

Alvin and the Chipmunks. I don't recall which one, definitely one of their first if not the first. I still have it packed up in the garage.
