Less than stellar releases saves me money

When I saw Iron Monkey was out, I gasped in excitement. Then I saw that it's said to be cut terribly, and there is no Chinese track!?!

I've always wanted to see Out of Time, but I guess the mpeg2 encoding leaves a lot to be desired. I guess that's why it sells for $12.

I really enjoy Polanski films, and The Ninth Gate is no exception, but then I see people have laid out some evidence that it's an old transfer, probably of at least 6 years. $10.

I wish Silence of the Lambs, one of my all time fav's, was said to look great.

Same for Shawshank.

Others I'm forgetting, but if any of the above were said to have at least a "very good" transfer, I'd bust out my wallet.

:(

Hm. I guess Braveheart is the only thing I'll buy right now, until perhaps Up/Monsters/Star Trek in November?

I hear ya man. I had been waiting for Hero to get released on BD for months, only to find out that it doesn't have an uncompressed Chinese track.

Also why the hell have the packaged Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon along with House of Flying Daggers and Curse of the Yellow Rose?!?!? I already have both of those, as I'm sure most people who are into Asian cinema do. No way I'm getting 1 movie along with 2 I already have.

Who the hell is making these bonehead decisions?

Iron Monkey is a classic.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon = my favorite movie of all time. I'm sad to hear the transfer is bad.

Audio isn't really the big advantage in Blu-ray it's the video. That's what I'm concerned with. I can always put the mandarin dolby digital track on.

I think I'll netflix this if I can to see for myself.

I have Hero in my blockbuster queue, and it's showing as unavailable, I hope they get this, or at least I hope the store has it in stock, they don't even have Freddy Vs. Jason on BD in the store or online either. Iron Monkey is pretty good, I haven't watched it in forever, same with Croutching Tiger Hidden Dragon.

Speak for yourself dude. I really enjoy uncompressed audio.

But the bottom line is, I already have Hero on DVD. If I can't get upgraded picture AND sound, I won't bother.

I just can't imagine watching these chinese movies in ENGLISH.:D

Oh, well, as long as it's only a Netflix movie, I'll rent them on BD.:D

I guess I'm the odd one here, since I can't stand reading subtitles... I'll take a crappy English dub over the original language any day... I guess I'm just too lazy to read.

Miramax is botching all of its releases.

Have you seen Legend of the Drunken Master? It looks WORSE than standard definition if that's even possible.
