I don't see how you'll be able to ride that. I mean there's no tires!

;)
I really hate it when somebody makes a completely useless post in what would otherwise be a very educational thread... C'mon, Shock...

One of the guys I rode with had to pick between a decent road bike or a decent mountain bike, we rode both quite a bit. He opted for a really nice steel cyclocross bike to use for both. I was really surprised how nimble it was on both road and on mtb trails. Plus it's a really good looking bike to boot.

I've got SRAM and Shimano on different bikes and I really prefer the sram shifting of the rear. With my shimano rear I had to re-adjust it on my mtb at least once every ride. The sram I adjusted only at regular tune-ups. I could never tell any difference between the front shifters/derailleurs with either brand.

I'm looking forward to some pictures when you're all done.

I haven't taken any pics yet since but I'm waiting to rebuild with 2010 Sram Rival next week. Anybody want any 7700 Dura-ace? ;-)

I'm sure you will love your Rival group. I've read that it is the #1 rated cross group out there because of it's durability, performance, and value.

I got into cross racing last year and bought a Guerciotti X-Crow. Guerciotti has been building cross bikes for like 30 years and even though their American presence is small, they still make sweet bikes IMO.

Now for the shameless plug. My brother and I run an online business selling new high end bike parts online. If you have trouble finding some parts at your local shop PM me, we have some sweet connections. Support your fellow Audioholics :)

Enjoy your bike, Salsa makes good stuff.

Too bad I'm just hearing from you now, I could have ordered my Rival stuff from you! PM me your shop web address, I'd like to check it out, and I'll recommend it when I can.

Rival stuff should be here on Thursday, yippee! I'm going to put some new Force cranks on her too. That doesn't leave much original stuff, jeesh. Seatpost, stem, handlebar, and wheels. Dang.

Thanks for the deals, Guiria!

Any one else racing cross this year, or MTB/road?

Make sure and post a pic or two when you get 'er all built up.

We have started cyclocross training here in Boise, ID. Races won't start until October. I've been running more lately and doing 400 meter repeats once a week to build up my "run up a hill with bike on shoulder" muscles. I remember last year the running parts just made me tired sooo fast.

I've raced a little in mtn biking, done some triathlons, but neither of those are as fun as cyclocross IMO...

Will do!

From what I've seen, there's a helluva lot more to CX racing than there is to MTB racing. I wasn't very good at MTB racing but on a scale of 1 to 10 in regards to training, I was at -3. I'm actually trying to build some cardio (QUICKLY) and need to work on some technique for CX. That is the one thing I've noticed about CX, is that technique is at least 50% of running a successful race.

Very Nice Bike

Long before I was an Audioholic, I was a cyclist. And when I say cyclist, my bikes cost 2x-3x more than my car. Needless to say my car was a POS. :D

So you can imagine my displeasure once I found a crack in my headtube of my road bike, which is also my only ride now. That displeasure lasted about 3.6 seconds, when then decided to get a cyclocross bike. Oh yes, I'm that insane. Or maybe logical...when was the last time you rode up to the trailhead on your road machine then hopped immediately into the singletrack?

So I'm building up a new Salsa Chili Con Crosso with the AlphaQ fork, and all the parts of my old dura-ace road bike. Should be awesome once it gets done. I'm getting the bike middle of next week, so I'll be up late putting it together.

And I'll tell you this, nothing looks as good as a sweet bike. Road/mtb/triathlon/whatever. Purpose-built machines like a nice ride are awesome. Better than most cars that don't rhyme with Torsche or Rerrari.

Here's a little teaser...

Very nice bike. I envy you

When I used to ride I had an original 531 Reynolds Aliminum 10 speed Schwinn Paramount with Campagnolo components and sew-up tires and the leather Brooks saddle. It was awesome in its day

I later replaced it 15 years later with a carbon fiber Giant and then 10 years later another composite/carbon fiber Giant... still have them  But arthritis in knees and elbows makes it hard to ride any distance. Have gone to a 6-speed Capri Adult Tri-Bike with a huge cushioned seat. It has a basket and I can ride to grocery store :)

Both bikes are in excellent shape. The older one I replaced the crank bearings and rims. The newer one is now almost 15 years old and it still rides great with onl a couple of tune-ups and new tires.

+1. Maybe you can start a "post your bike" thread and have us off to a good start with yours :).
Good idea. I'll do that but I'll need to get some pics at home of all my bikes and start the thread with a bang!

Well, I have a bunch of SRAM Rival components in my cube right now. Can't wait to get them home and start getting this set up. I'm sure I'll be tired tomorrow.

Super sweet!!

Oh, you even went with the TRP brakes very nice. I see you did not upgrade the cranks. Those Dura-Ace will last forever but I thought you were getting the whole gruppo?

This is entirely out of my range of experience. I will not pollute your thread with another useless post...or will I?
