I don't see any info on a DVD-A release for this one. With FOABP, it came months after the release of the CD, but the preorder was up at the same time AFAIK? I will be picking it up for sure :)

Great!! Thanks for the heads up! I thought they wouldn't be putting anything out right now (w/Wilson's solo work and remixing projects). Listened to FOABP for the first time in a while just yesterday and thought "I hope they put out something again soon." To my suprise...they are!!!!!!!!!

Wilson is a multichannel guru and advocate. I'd be shocked if PC didn't put out the new one in a multichannel format. By the way, did anyone hear FOABP in surround? I couldn't find that one (except on ebay for over $50).

There is a deluxe edition that has a 5.1 dvd, a couple of books, and the two audio cd's. Good luck finding it and if you do, it supposedly will be over $100.

I'm really diggin this band now. I realize progressive rock of the 70s (ie. Genesis, Yes, etc) will never come again, but these guys and Riverside and a select few others are the closest thing.

I hope they release this on DVD-A, or Blu-ray. I play the last 2 DVD-As from them in my car all the time and love them!

Hey Gene,
What kind of front end allows you to play DVD-A's in your car? Do you just have a standard DVD player?

I have an 07 Acura TL Type S. All 3G TL's come standard with a 5.1 DVD-A system. Too bad no SACD though :(

It's looking to be a great month thanks to Mr. Wilson. We also have the first King Crimson re-master (Red) in a couple of weeks as well, which was also done by wilson and Fripp.

Next month- In the Court of the Crimson King. In DVD-A: woo-hoo!

Haven't got any Porcupine Tree CDs at all and alot of people here have mentioned how good they are. Which of their albums do you recommend me getting?

You should be able to get it off their site or other places online. It is a very well done 5.1 mix, as are all of them. Included on the disc are 5.1 mixes of Nil Recurring as well, which I feel has some of the best 5.1 tracks Wilson has done. It will likely be very difficult to find in stores. They have a DVD coming out that was done in high def, so I would presume that means they will be releasing it on Blu-ray  WooHoo!

It isn't going to be hard to find, just expensive. $106.99 This includes a DVD, but I don't see anything about it being DVD-A and I don't want to spend that much if there is a DVD-A coming out later like FOABP did.

I'd say start with either In Absentia or Deadwing. Those two tend to be the most well known and popular. Get the 5.1 albums if you can. They have both DVD-A and dts tracks on there.

They are going to be in my area next Friday (San Francisco) :D I didn't even know....not sure if I can get tix. Very limited number of US dates as always, only 10 shows as far as I can tell.

I'd ditto this - In Absentia just might be the best record to come out of the 90's. I've been digging Stupid Dream as of late, as well. I can't believe how addicted I am to this band.

Do what you can to score those tix - I saw them last year, (on Steve Wilson's B-Day actually) in a smaller venue and was very impressed with the performance.

I was fortunate enough to see them twice last year, once at this same venue and it is one of my favorite small venues :)

I may try to get to the September 25th show in Baltimore. Maybe take the family up from Richmond, check out the Harbor and the Aquarium (I have a seven year old). I'm pumped....never seen PC live. Fantastic band.

3db - I agree with everyone. In Absentia, Deadwing, and Fear of a Blank Planet are good starters. I also love the DVD Arriving Somewhere..... and use it as a demo/test DVD. My jaw hit the floor the first time I listened to it.

Stupid Dream is good, but I like Lightblulb Sun more. Both are older albums, that are good and both also come in 5.1 variety as well.

Insurgentes, Steven Wilson's most recent solo album side project, is also quite good. It sounds similar to, but not exactly like PT. Some PT fans don't like it, but I really like it and the 5.1 mixes on that disc are awesome as well. Arriving Somewhere is a great show, but the mix is a little "off" since I understand they took a 2.0 mix and turned it into a 5.1 mix. It still sounds very good in some spots, but not like live or like a DVD-A mix.

PT is easily my favorite band right now.

Russia on Ice is my favorite PT song out of those 2 records.

In my opinion this band has gotten better and better. I'd start with Fear of a Blank Planet (but buy the DVD-A if you can) Nobody has mentioned the E.P. Nil Recurring (the songs come as bonus tracks with the DVD-A FOABP). It is amazing! Especially the last two tracks. I like it even better than FOABP (as I said, they've gotten better and better).
I'm anxiously waiting for my copy of The Incident (hopefully this week). I hope that my first statement of this post holds true. They'll be here in Chicago on Tuesday. I was stupid enough to not buy tickets months ago when they were available, and last month when I tried to buy them, the show was sold out. I'll have to be scalped at the door, I guess. I saw them 2 years ago and enjoyed the show A LOT.

Go to burningshed.com, you can buy some cds, some dvd-as, download mp3s and flacs, not only of the band, but of their side and solo projects, as well as other quality artists. I pre-ordered my copy of the Incident from Amazon for $9.99.
