I've seen it, but they didn't have an exibit model. It looks very sexy on the box.

One of my employees picked one up last week. Though he is totally new to HD since he just bought a new LCD set, he was impressed. I'll either borrow his unit for a weekend or just buy one to play with. I loaned him a few Bluray discs to test out the unit. For some reason he couldn't get Ironman to play. I suspect it may be because he hasn't hooked the unit up to the internet. I checked on-line to see if there was any firmware updates announced, but nothing to be found.

I think blu ray players need to get down to at least the $100 range for the mainstream to start buying them, and also B&M rental stores really need to start stocking more blu ray movies, especially the new releases.
I keep wondering when the lady at Blockbuster is going to stop asking me if I have a Blu-ray player at home.

Well I bought their Vizio LCD, SV470M and I'm truly happy with the display. The resolution and colour accuracy seem to be top nothc, espcailly with the fleshtones and the greens. None of this artificial push.

I went to Costoc last night and compared my Vizio to the Samsungs, Sony and LG LCDs and the Vizio had the best PQ out o fthe bunh. Canada probably won't see the Vizio DVD players at Costoc for anothher 3 monteh sor so. I'm so pleased with my display that I will consider purchasing the Vizo DVD player.

If it does everything the Oppo does...and even better...for less money, I would still NOT buy it. Their customer service stinks. That's being polite! Stop being all giddy about new 'stuff' and start thinking about post purchase support. I'll gladly spend the extra money for a product from a company that cares about it's consumers.

I've heard just the opposite that Vizio's customer service is really good. Did you have a bad experiecne with them?

I was just wondering how the player performed. I thought it might be a good cheap gift I could give to move some relatives up to Bluray.

They used to ask me, but now they must have a note in the system because they were about to ask me recently, then I saw them look at the computer and say oh yea, you do have a blu ray player.

Why would anyone spend $199 for a Magnovox, or $180 for a Vizio, when so many better reviewed Panasonics, Sonys, are just $20-40 more??? Or in some cases, the same price.

Panasonic DMP-BD60 $!80. That will even get you Amazon's unboxed service
SOme considerations:
1.) Until tested, how do you know they are better?
2.) And with shipping you'll easily blow past these prices?

Vizio is a fairly new company but its been making name for itself for quality products, great customer suppport without the brand name prices.

I saw the Vizio outside the box, it's not as sexy as I thought. It feels like flimsey plastic garbage. The Magnavox is built to a higher quality standard. It also does not have multichannel analog output like some where thinking.

The Panasonic ships for free and you don't pay tax. So in most cases it would be less than the Vizio. Vizio is known to be a bargain brand, even by Vizio. They are not of the same build quality of the larger, better established, bluray manufacturers, nor do they offer the kinds of extras one can find on a similarly priced Sony or Panasonic bluray player. Vizio is fine as long as you know what you are buying, but if Vizio is the same price and putting less into their product then the competition then you are just getting ripped off.
This is the Chevy Cavalier of Bluray players, it wont be more. It needs a drastic price reduction.

Thanks Seth. This is useful information.. now that you've seen it first hand. Looks like I'll be striking this off my list as a blu-ray candidate. I really want that Oppp BP-83 but thats way over my budget unfortunately. :(

Ah, didn't know you were in Canada, that does make things a bit more difficult then.

You can get a Panasonic DMP-BD60 from amazon.com for under $180.00 with free shipping.

Seems like that would be your best bet for a budget blu-ray player.
This is a great price. I just logged on to Pana Direct, using my friend's login (who's worked for them for over a decade) and the employee pricing is like $10 worse, and then add tax. ;)

For anyone outside CA (woe is 3db), this is a no-brainer at the price point, IMO.

If I were in the market for a standalone player I would not hesitate to pick that up. With as much as prices have come down on blu ray players, I'm excited to see what kind of sales we will see during the holiday season.
