Inglourious Basterds

I ended up seeing this movie over the weekend. I couldn't get anybody to go with me, so I went by myself. Everybody I asked though the movie was going to be gory based on the trailer where a Nazi gets beat with a baseball bat. It ends up they were wrong.

Anyway, the movie is a classic "B" movie in all respects. It has the feel of the original 1978 italian film "The Inglorious Bastards". Very much in the vain of spaghetti westerns. But this is an entirely different story than the original film.

Without giving too much away, this movie focuses around a couple different plots to seek revenge against the Nazis. And of course how they can go wrong. Under no circumstance should anybody expect a historically accurate story with this movie. It's a "B" movie that was made just for the sake of fun.

Brad Pitt plays Lt. Aldo Raine, a southerner of indian decent that only wants to kill Nazis. He leads a group of Jewish-American soldiers behind German lines in Europe on a terrorist campaign to hunt down as many Nazis as they can. Pitt's character has some hilarious lines. He was definitely the best part of the movie.

Anway, go see the movie. Even if you have to leave everybody else at home (like I did).

Yeah, my wife doesn't want to see this movie either. So I guess I'll have to go see this one on my own while she is shopping.:D

She wants to go see "District 9" though. I'm cool with that.:D

Big thumbs up for Basterds. This is not the greatest movie of all time, nor the greatest Tarantino film either, imo. But for what it is I found it to be nearly perfect.

If you want a detailed and historically accurate WWII bio-pic this is not for you. And if you are not cool with QTs self-indulgences you may not enjoy the 2.5 hour experience. As for me, I'm already looking forward to seeing it again.

Definitely not Tarantino's best, but worth the watch.

Nope. IMHO this is a "one and done" viewing. It was good but I don't think I would have been crushed had I waited to see it at home.

Of course my 5 and 6 yr olds have a habit of wandering into the living room late at night so my finger would have constantly hovered above the OFF button.

I'm stoked to watch this film. I tried to get my dad to watch it with me, but for some crazy reason he wanted to watch G.I. JOE instead. I told him "it's gonna be stupid" and sure enough it was stupid. It barely drudged on, G.I. JOE didn't even hit my low expectations of "stupid" it was "really really stupid".

This movie feels slightly sloppy for a QT movie, I think that ultimately works in its favor as it can become quite goofy at times. This is hard to explain but I enjoyed every individual part of this movie but these individual parts don't quite come together as a completely satisfying whole.

I really want to see it again just to digest everything.

I'm a QT fan, and I did not like this movie at all.

Very disappointed!

I think what finally did it for me was the movie scene at the end. I was doing fine with the scalping and associated gore. While not having an absolute blast ... I was enjoying the movie. But for some reason - watching a body and face get turned to swiss cheese by machine gun was over the top for me.

Granted - Hitler deserved that and more than we can probably ever think of. But that was over the top for me to see on the big screen.

The movie is a 7/10 at best. The trailer was equally as good as the entire movie.

I mean that bar scene...really? REALLY? What a waste of 20 minutes.

I enjoyed this one, and I'm to tired to add anything other than B.J. Nolan's lack of expression in this movie I found to be quite comical.

I think I will have to see this one again because my observations are, like the movie, fragmented. There were parts l really liked, but I was distressed at all the potentially interesting characters that were left hanging. Too many characters, not enough time. As a fictionalized history, it violated that rule that you don't change major world events unless it is a sci-fi movie about an alternative universe. Everybody knows that Hitler, et al were NOT killed in a theater in Paris. The dynamite-strapped terrorists were out of time period. I loved Colonel Landa, as a Nazi fixture, the cagy, effeminate detective, looking out for himself. Great character. Actually my favorite part is where the movie changes just as all hell is about to break loose in the theater and we see the Jewish woman ranting as the flame burst forth. That part of the movie was like a wish fullfillment...seeing Hitler and his cronies hoisted up by their own petards. And...I liked the old 1950's Euro-styled shaky credits and crudely recorded music in the beginning and ending credits. So, do I like it? Yes. As one who is NOT a big QT fan, this was my favorite of his flix.

I watched this movie tonight. I am familiar with some of QT's work, so I knew going into it that there would be gore. I wasn't let down in this respect. Although over the top, I never found myself squeamish watching scalps scrapped off. This could be desensitization, or the makings of a murderer, who knows.

I didn't find the movie too long, nor did I think it dragged at anyone point. The parts I found most intense were the vocal interactions between the undercover agents.
The German PI was brilliantly played.

This movie (to me) was very funny also. The botched accents, the characters and their mannerisms, and over the top viloence made for endless comedic situations.

One thing I really enjoyed was the
overlapping story lines, all heading to the same, final resolution. I love watching each move made by each party, and how they affect each other.

Great description Sheep , I actualy felt pretty much the same way except it did seem like a little long of movie for my taste but it made up for it.
