I saw it last night, and it was awesome. Great action sequences, great special effects, and great sound :-D. It makes me wanna get a home theater, buy the blu-ray, and watch it over and over again lol.

I don't recall hearing of it before yesterday, when I saw the trailer. Looks pretty bad@$$ to me. It's rating ~90% across the board over on Rotten Tomatoes. I may actually go see this one in the theater instead of waiting for the BD release. With all the high-tech turds that've been coming out lately, a high-tec movie with a story and message might actually be refreshing.

Maybe next year they can stop the movie inbetween cuts and have a voiceover saying things like "the roses and butterflys are symbolism of change."
That would be nice. :) I miss symbolism all the time. Even after my high school English teacher would point it out, I still couldn't see it.

South Africa...a black girl saying as long as they keep them seperate she's cool with it...Wow, clever.
Par for the course, I didn't catch that at all. At all.

Damn, you guys are making me really anxious to see this movie!

Hopefully it won't show any genitals or Sheep might get on my case for not complaining about it!:D

Queer.

Fag.:p

Actually, I don't look at the blue guy's genital because I'm homophobic.

And it seems like you feel comfortable looking at it.

So who's the queer now?:p:D

Shaky camera?

Okay, I heard about the "shaky camera work" similar to Cloverfield.

How bad is it?

The movie was supposed to look like a documentary, so there is a bit of shaky camera. I haven't seen Cloverfield, but this movie was fine. It was realistic with the effect, and still coherent.

I enjoyed the movie, found there to be very little plot holes, and thought the acting and scenery to be superb. It reminded me of HL2.

Sooo....

Are you recommending people go see it in the theaters or wait for it to come out on dvd/bd?

The LFE will be better on DVD/Blu-ray. It's a Tristar, so Sony will make sure the Dolby TrueHD (not DTS-HD MA) rocks!

I liked the use of the surrounds at the beginning of the movie. The feedback with the cheap label microphone sounded very realistic with the surrounds--nice touch.

Thank you, District 9, for proving once again that Hollywood (or New Zealand?) can make an action movie that doesn't insult my intelligence.

Dolby TrueHD - DTS-HD MA

NO AUDIBLE DIFFERENCE!

DTS is grasping for straws, they can only hope to gain exclusive 7.1/7.2, but it won't happen. Dolby set the bar high enough to negate the necessity of another codec. Does AVC have a viable competitor for support with Blu-ray? No. Why? Because it's not necessary. Steven Spielberg gave birth to a reason to have a competing audio codec, it's certainly not necessary anymore. How someone got rights to "audio" blows my mind. Multichannel PCM would have been fine, and would have cost a lot less than having two competing audio encoders compete pointlessly.

So yes, DTS rules, but then so does Dolby.
