Nothing in the link you provided discounts what I said in my post. For example, it says that in the Southwest, illegals account for about 25% of uncompensated care. Who accounts for the other 75%? All of this is irrelevant as abuse by illegals will happen under any system.

Something has to be done, but it should exclude illegal or undocumenteds. Socialized medicine isn't it.

We have many social service programs that help the truly indignant citizens and children but illegals cannot partake so they simply walk in and get freebies when they need it. Who pays for that? The state governments.

And, many that can afford insurance choose to not get it because they are young and healthy and feel they are immortal.

I'm assuming your job provides you with a health plan, right? How's that workin' out for you?

There are people dying of far simpler things and in higher volume here in the U.S. so I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss France. Life expectancy is 76 in the U.S. and 80 in France.

But for how long can they manage this? Who pays for this? As the article states, it's not all peaches and cream there.

On the other hand, I've paid taxes here for nearly 30 years with very little demand for health care over my lifetime. Now when I need it, I find that it's a useless mess, loaded with incompetence and waste and wholly unconcerned with my health care outcome or quality of life. But it's not FREE health care. I've paid into this system my whole life. A LOT!!! And now that I need it and have already paid for it, I'm not going to go to the States and pay out of pocket again for something I've already paid for (even if it kills me).

But hey, if this is what Americans want from Obamacare, who am I to argue?

The fact that you've had poor service doesn't mean EVERYONE has poor service. A family member of mine has been in and out of the hospitals for the last 2 years. It isn't someone that has a bizarre disease, rather just getting old, fighting cancer. When a problem occurs, we're in right away, and out before noon, all better. Most of the time it's just a medicine adjustment. If you dislike paying the taxes in Canada that provide many services, move. No one will miss you.

So my question is, Should our government conceive a plan and promote is as "The Best Way" to make sure everyone has health insurance with no regard for the fact that people who aren't even US citizens will get the same as US citizens, especially when the vast majority of the non-citizens are here illegally? I'm pretty sure that if a US citizen goes to a foreign country and needs health care, they have to pay out of pocket. If they have a health plan that covers foreign care, it would be expensive but I know they have some provisions for that. Going to a hospital in a foreign country and being treated without cost isn't likely and if that person doesn't have a valid reason for being there, what happens? They're usually sent on their way, but someplace else.

Kind of like bar time- "You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here".

What if the foreign people are cared for and a bill is sent to their country of origin? That might stop the flood.

Going through the channels I noticed a town hall meeting in PA on health care reform being broadcast on cnn. All the pointing, yelling, screaming, and pounding of the fists go my attention, followed by some valid points and misinformation. LOL Did markw, Tommorow, Rickster and bandphan make the trip to PA to get in on the gang bang?

(not meaning to start a fight, i just found the situation very amusing because the town hall meeting reminded exactly of all the political threads on this forum )
