It is illegal to ask an individuals political affiliation during a job interview.

If I am not mistaken UO is a primarily liberal arts school. This section of universities typically have a liberal slant.

I used to volunteer in a hospital at the ER desk - this was not the case. The hospital was medium sized and served the town it was in as well as the surrounding cities. I also volunteered at a large hospital in a big city, not at the ER desk, but worked near it - this was also not the case.
College station is a rich college town surrounded by nothing much except perhaps Bryan, Wellborne, Snook and a few other small towns. Personally, I love the Hullabaloo diner in Wellborne, not to mention Wings n' More on Rock Prarie in CS. In any case, it's not a depressed area.

Perhaps I should have been a bit more specific. Try San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, and other towns with a larger metropolitan makeup, particularly those that have a large percentage if "undocumented" peoples.

I'm right outside of Newark, NJ and would invite him to spend some time hare in the financial centers of the hospitals here.

Me thinks it was more of an analogy speaking to the human condition, in hopes of making a point.
Its a silly point. On the contrary there are also many economists that believe in government intervention. All you are giving is your opinion, nothing else.

I don't even think it an economic point, silly or not.
It's more one of psychology and sociology and how people react when something is labeled as 'free.'

Thats a little vague. I am not sure what you are labelling as "free". I live under what Americans consider "socialist" here in Canada and it is nothing like the point you are trying to make in this thread. It is quite offensive actually. You have to work hard to make money.

Very true, College Station is a fairly wealthy town that is surrounded by nothing special. As far as the food goes I was disgusted by Hullabaloo's food (FoodnTV's shows on restaurants seem to be a farce) while Wings n' More is nothing but a regular chain. In general the restaurants in CS are nothing special. There are a few good ones, but Austin is where it is at.

The restaurants I would recommend are three: Pho John's, Los Molcajetes and Spice Bowl. Koppe Bridge also has good burgers and such, but that is something you can get anywhere in the country. The only reason I mention it is because its wings blow Wings n' More out of the water.

Perhaps I should have been a bit more specific. Try San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, and other towns with a larger metropolitan makeup, particularly those that have a large percentage if "undocumented" peoples.
I have lived in CS for the last year as of last week and have not stepped foot in a hospital. I did however volunteer in a Dallas ER, when I lived there - That was the large one I referred to. The smaller hospital was was the local hospital where I got my undergraduate degree, in Iowa. I worked at the ER desk originally and then behind the scenes later. Both towns had significant Hispanic populations.

My mother worked in a hospital for twenty years, and her version is more like this.

Just noticed this. I don't deny that there are large numbers of "non-citizens" taking advantage of the health-care system within this country. At the same time, there are many citizens doing the same because it is broken. Is the bill the answer? Doubtful, but rarely is the first draft the final draft.

As far as citizenship goes that is another broken system, but I believe that is a different debate all together.

There's no question that Canada is socialist and I have every reason to say that socialized medicine is failing me and has been for well over a year now. I don't know whether it's simply a lack of physician competence as a result of socialization or whether it's simply doctors trying to pad their remittances from the gov't. Either way, it's my health that's suffering and I have no legal means to seek alternate treatment except to go to the USA (where of course people argue that their system is broken, yet that's the only place I can go to ensure that I get cured).

Nope. No passport yet.

On the other hand, I've paid taxes here for nearly 30 years with very little demand for health care over my lifetime. Now when I need it, I find that it's a useless mess, loaded with incompetence and waste and wholly unconcerned with my health care outcome or quality of life. But it's not FREE health care. I've paid into this system my whole life. A LOT!!! And now that I need it and have already paid for it, I'm not going to go to the States and pay out of pocket again for something I've already paid for (even if it kills me).

But hey, if this is what Americans want from Obamacare, who am I to argue?

We should not base national policy on account of what goes on in a minority of areas. Most of the country does not have a problem with illegals bankrupting hospitals. In fact, poor citizens themselves are largely responsible in many areas. This problem exists currently and will continue to exist if the health bill passes. I'm not sure there is a solution.

What's being proposed is similar to the Canadian system, but not the same. In my opinion, we should be looking at France and Italy for ideas on healthcare.

Yet again your example fails. To put it in your perspective it would be like me showing you clips of sicko by Michael Moore. What did you think of that movie. .

The problem here is just like the example used with the economics proffessor and tieing it in with Obama . The title: How True it is... it is utter bs and you spin it with your agenda or against a politicans policy and then all the poltical sheep follow you. You complain about the government and politicians and such but you are just as bad for spreading your agenda and spinning it just like the politicans do. You are just posting YOUR propoganda on an audio website nonetheless. You take one half truth and make everyone believe that it is the way it is yet...it isnt.

I find it ironic that the ones that ***** about politians policies all the time are the ones that are always the ones spinning information.

You might want to check the video Rick provided in his post just before yours.

Ans, as for France, isn't that where a thousand elderly people died during that last heat wave? You might want to read this, or maybe not.

No, you just don't understand the concept.

This example = FAIL

First of all if this was the case the professor would hand out a course outline of this which is essentially a contract for the course. If what is stated is true by the OP then nobody can fail if all test were averaged B,D, F and weighted equally. That does not equal an F grade.
The test scores can be averaged out, but the grading system remains constant.

Assume three students. and a scale of 90-100=A, 80-89=B, 70-79=C. 60-69=D. Below 60 = Fail

Scores are 100-A, 80-B, and 60-C. That's' 240. Divided by three gives an average of 80, or a B. This works out well for the guy that barely passed, neutral for the middle guy but the A student took a big hit.

Let's assume that the A student kept studying anyway, the guy in the middle slacked off and the loser said "Hey, I like this" and stopped studying entirely.

Let's try different numbers now; 100-A, 70-C and 40-fail. That's 210. Divide that by three and we have an average 70, barely a C. Again, the only loser is the A student.

Now the brain says fluck it, why should I bother, and stops studying.

New grades; 80-B, 60-C and 40-fail. That's 160, divide by three and we have 53.

Congratulations! Socialism has killed the class average.

Don't they teach these concepts where you're from?

I don't know what to say...
So, what's my agenda again?

I'm not a Republican or a Democrat, I don't agree with how the war on terror was handled, or if we should even have one. I don't agree with this Bail-out or any system of Health care (old or new)
It needs fixing, this just isn't the right plan.

I suggest you use your convoluted logic with Davemcc.
He's Canadian and living the nightmare, that I hope we never see here.
Or do you think Dave has an "agenda and spinning it" to promote his propaganda?

This is not a real world example of socialism. It is disinformation.
I am not trying to argue political stances here. I really don't care about politics. I just see the same people creating political threads and posting (made up information at that) information and turning them into absolutes to either fit their own agenda or attack someone elses. Hypocricy at its finest especially the way facts (I would not even call it that) are presented and made into absolutes to attack other individuals policies.

Nothing in the link you provided discredits what I said in my post. For example, it says that in the Southwest, illegals account for about 25% of uncompensated care. Who accounts for the other 75%? All of this is irrelevant as abuse by illegals will happen under any system.

As for France:

http://www.photius.com/rankings/healthranks.html

There are people dying of far simpler things and in higher volume here in the U.S. so I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss France. Life expectancy is 76 in the U.S. and 80 in France.

Perhaps I could have left that "socialism" line out, but all I wanted to show here was that, yes, Rick's example does play out mathematically.

As for attacking, I think perhaps you should look within before accusing others of that.

This would be like someone commenting in the 'Car Modding' thread with a very strong opinion, yet know nothing of the technical aspect of cars.
