According to Amazon, it's released in three days.

So who's getting it? The subjective reviews I've scanned for both the Japanese and Euro seem to be pretty favorable, and they are said to look identical.

I thought this was common knowledge? Anyway, at least one Frys here had put it out on shelves 2 weeks early by mistake, but not my local ones. I will be picking it up for sure

I'm not sure about this one. I REALLY liked it as a kid. But the movie's pretty silly actually. If Amazon has it on sale for $15 or so, I'll probably pick it up.

My hopes for PQ are pretty high. Well, the only Carpenter title I own is The Thing on HDDVD, and it's RIDICULOUSLY good. However, they messed up the BD release with too much DNR. Anyhow, my hopes are still high, as the reviews of the foreign versions seem to be quite favorable!

I just got back from Frys and it was $19.99 so I didn't pick it up I have a feeling this one will go on sale so it can wait. Surprisingly, that seems to be the going price. Even Tower had it for $19.

The Thing was one of the few HD DVDs that I did own and the PQ was great. I have it on BD now and haven't actually watched it. I did check out a few scenes and the PQ still looked good to me.

It's the first title that really got me thinking about the idea of a backup HDDVD player. I never did, but the PQ difference is not slight. It's really too bad, because the HDDVD is just spectacular. My friend who bought it for me was utterly speechless. I think I was yelling his name to get his attention, but he simply couldn't respond or register that anyone was yelling at him. That's how good the pic is, and my point is that they shouldn't even touched it all with the DNR.

I love this movie but I wasn't sure I wanted to upgrade from the DVD. I'm probably going to wait for Amazon to put it on sale. OTOH, I may decide I'm too impatient to wait. Best to stay away from Amazon for a while.

I broke down and bought the BD after all. Amazon had it on sale. I still haven't watched it. I have a lot of BD's and a nice plasma to watch them on and no time to actually watch movies.
