Check this out...

For people interested to find out more about that 384.8-channel surround sound system (all discrete channels too!) that I just mentioned above, and you still believe there's a God, check this out. This is from the "Official Audyssey Thread".
I suggest that you read pages 371, 372, and 373. But if you want to go to the heart of the matter, just go to post # 11123, then post #11127. And on the next page, go to post #11132 and #11133.
=> On page 373, you'll find a short discussion on the effect of human nude body (skin), has on sound. Quite interesting. without any moe interruption, here it is.

And finally, to know more about this 384.8-channel discrete surround sound system, which is called IOSONO, click on this one below.

---> I would have like that Marc (FilmMixer) gave us these informations himself, but it seems that he is not very stable or should I say, consistent on his appearances on our Forums. I remember very well, about two months ago or so, when I ask him a very important question, relating to the sound quality difference, between the Onkyo TX-NR906 and the Yamaha RX-Z7; I never could get an answer! :(
And I would very love to see Marc more often here, as he has a good baggage of experience as a professional film mixer (13 or 14 years), for the big shots in Hollywood, like some major blockbuster movies, from major Hollywood Studios.
There is a lot of good stuff to learn from a guy like that (Marc Fishman).
He is one of the few good people that I sorely miss from AVS Forums, in particular, from the Offical Audyssey Thread.
I also miss very much Larry (Chanin). And Chris (Kyriakakis), from Audyssey. And Bob (Pariseau) from Anthem, Gary J, pepar... And others that are very intelligent and logical thinkers, with amazing knowledge on much more than audio or video, but also on technological theory* and mathematical philosophy*.
People in a verisimilitude that we have here, like highfigh, TLS Guy, Mtrycrafts, Patrick (Warpdrv), Steve (bigred7078), Chris (WmAx), Alex (Alex2507), Dave (Davemcc), Gene, Clint, Tom, Sedonalar, Peng, MatthewB., rnatalli, 3db, anamorphic96, Fenix, Seth, Walter, and a few more that I forget their names at this moment. Please forgive me guys.

But Jostenmeat, ParadigmDawg, and few others are also here with us, and I occasionally talk to Kal (Rubinson), that I also like very much, at the Shack.
But there are a bunch of other very nice and knowledgeable people that I would love to see joining us here at Audioholics, for some great action from the big players, and the smart thinkers. I truly believe that we need more people like them here.
I'm optimist though, that it will eventually happen. :)

Best regards to all,
Bob

I was not born yesterday. ;)

Some thoughts & things.

* Here's the original post from FilmMixer on his interpretation of sound difference between the Onkkyo TX-NR905 vs. the Yamaha RX-Z7.
@ http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/showthread.php?p=570836#post570836

* And here's my original replied question from his above post.
@ http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/showthread.php?p=571140&highlight=Onkyo+905+Pioneer+SC-07#post571140

~~~ You have to realise that FilmMixer had experience with all (or mostly all) flagship receivers, and that he had firsthand listening experience (and feature's operation) with all these receivers. Just ask Jostenmeat, he knows what I'm talking about.
Now, where is he? Disappeared again!!! :(
I just want some answers.
It is important to me, getting information from people that listened to several receivers, using the same speakers, and preferably the same music recordings too. And the receivers I'm most interested to know about, are:
Denon AVR-4802R, Denon AVR-4806ci, Denon AVR-4808ci, Denon AVR-5805ci, Denon AVR-5308ci, Denon AVR-4310ci, Yamaha RX-Z9, Yamaha RX-Z11, Yamaha RX-Z7, Pioneer Elite SC-05, SC-07 and SC-09, Onkyo TX-SR805, Onkyo TX-SR875, Onkyo TX-NR905, Onkyo TX-SR876, Onkyo TX-NR906, Marantz SR7002 and SR8002, some NAD and ROTEL top models also.
* But I'm most interested to the newer upcoming receivers; the Denon AVR-4810ci and
the Onkyo TX-NR1007, TX-NR3007 and TX-NR5007, and also the newer Pioneer Elite flagship models, the SC-25 and SC-27.
But these are for a near future experience. We'll see in due time...
Hi Marc,
While you're here, can you tell us more about that 384.8 discrete channel speakers system,
in Los Angeles, at that commercial setup in a Mann Theater?
You know, those 384 discrete speakers, plus 8 discrete subwoofers (each with an 18" driver).
I've know the person who runs the LA office for IOSONO for a long time... they used to have their only system in the US installed on my old mixing stage (which doesn't exist anymore). We are in the process of installing one of their new systems in another one of our mixing stages... I hope to master a film for them this year... just looking for the right project. They are really close to getting a film into that theater... ;)
Link to their site
And how many films are truly recreated to produce "true discrete" 7.1 soundtracks, and encoded on Blu-rays? Just your best guess?
~ Oh, and these new remixes, must be very new indeed?
Very few true discrete mixes... almost all were/are being done by Mi Casa, and since New Line is no more, the only consistent client they are doing them for is Lionsgate...
There are few in the film sound industry that feel it is a worthwhile investment frankly.
I don't see it becoming the norm in the near future...
That being said, I just finished helping on a show for HBO, and they are considering doing 7.1's for BR... if we do it, we'll do it right. ;)
* And one more question; How much can you get the Denon AVR-5308ci for? Very best price? From private or open box discounted price.
I've said it in public before, so it's no secret.. I get my Denon gear from them directly at their accommodation pricing. It's an industry perk. :)
-> Oh, and by the way, I believe there is a fair sound quality difference between the Z7 and the Z11.
That wouldn't surprise me.. just wanted to throw my .02 in.
Wow! Marc, you just made my day! I'm so happy to see you back, and a gave us some very cool answers. :)
Truly, sincerely, Thank You Very Much. :)
Marc, why don't you post more often here at Audioholics?
OK, don't answer that, I know.
Still, there is a good number of people with great knowledge and fast and smart minds too, like me for example. ;)
But you already knew that, right. :)
Anyway, I would love to see you a bit more, perhaps, just to spice up the minds of few, that'll be a very needed ingredient.
I feel so good right now, that I just don't wanna talk about anything but happyness and IOSONO, of course. And you know what too Marc?
THere is a bunch (well, at least few) people here that don't believe what I'm telling them, and they even ....
Well, I'm having some rough times some days, because of wrong judgements or ignorance from some people. I'm sure you do undserstand what I'm saying. ;)
I advanced a lot since my beginning at AVS. I was ejected, because I didn'y know that you can tell a person to get lost on your PM!
That's what I did, I told a guy that was discreminating me on about a dozen posts, because my being French and making spelling faults.
So, I exploded, PM him, ald told him to get lost and shove it.
He then fabricated more bad words from that PM, and show it to the administrator. Few minutes later, I was banned for life!
Talk about some gross injustice.
I thought to myself then, Ok Bob, let's be very cool here. I e-mail the administrator, and told him that I apologise and would love to apologise to the guy directly, and I really meant it with all my heart too.
His answer: No bad mouthing about other members! And he's the one that discreminated me!!!
Then, I said to myself, well Bob, if it's that way, it's not a good plce for you.
And I pack my bags to somewhere else, here. :)
I don't know Marc, but I do miss a few very good people from overthere, just like you Marc buddy. You know that I love you Marc, do you? :)
I miss Kal, Larry, Garry, Chris, Bob Pariseau, Phantom, Smart-pants, Jeff, Mark (Giomania), and about 50 more approximatively. Plus I miss the thousands og help that I provided to a lot of young and old people. My PM box was always full of compliments and Thanks.
Yep, I did quite bit of travel since then, and I learn a lot in the process, but the biggest thing that I learned Marc, is CONFIDENCE in myself. And that, is true power, that nobody can take away from you. That is pure true Audio Nirvana, that resides deep down in your SOUL.
Best regards,
Bob
Special Thanks to all!
And this is why I have always gone to Audioholics for reviews and now personal advice. I can't thank you folks enough for giving me such in-depth support. Obviously, my choice between the Denon 5308ci and Yamaha rx-z11 was never really a choice. Given the width of the room moving to 11.2 or anything close would be a bit of overkill. Also, it appears that new units with amazing features and a more affordable price tag are just around the corner. I have a strong receiver and the upgrade to a 1080p projector and high end blue-ray player to get the latest surround sound capabilities appears to be the most cost effective solution. Not to mention if I still have the urge to spend money a wise investment would be an upgraded sub.
All wonderful advice that I truly appreciate.
Thanks again.
I know Matthew, and I know that you knew that I knew. ;)
* I can tell you so many funny stories man, that it's just better not.
Here's a true fact though: THERE IS NO WAY THAT SOMEONE CAN READ ALL THE POSTS AND MAKE A FAIR JUDGEMENT, JUST IMPOSSIBLE.
And if you want to make a fair assessment, you have to take the time to read the full story. Is that reminds you of our justice system?
And in every country too.
Anyway, it's just too bad, it's their own loss. And by doing that, they cut the good information to new generation.
I'd better not think about that, it's very sad indeed.
No wonder that the first original founder just quit. And many mods too.
Hi Eric, I welcome you here at Audioholics and hoping you'll find everything you're looking for and much much more.
I'll give you straight up, the Denon AVR-5308CI can be had for $2,500 USA, with the right connection. Not bad of a deal, isn't it? :)
Now, don't ask me for that connection, cause I don't have it, just yet.
But it's coming (I got good relations with Denon dealers and their support team).
Eric, you seem well informed my man. Just wait for the new Denon AVR-4810CI, that'll be something quite different. :)
Also the new Onkyo TX-NR5007, another great surprise, coming soon. :)
Everything comes perfectly cooked, to the ones that are patient. ;)
Cheers & Enjoy your stay,
Bob
