Going from lossy to lossless... is that that noticeable?

The words pretty much say it all. You can have bad lossless recordings, great lossy ones, but no power on earth can put back what was lost and all other things being equal, assuming that you have good ears, good equipment and a good listening environment, the lossless one will have more detailed info to work with. The problem in the real world, however, is that "all things" are never equal, so, like a lot of things...it depends.
Always on the individual audio recordings by the sound recording engineers and film mixers. ;)

I believe the MOST IMPORTANT point of all this HD audio is that a lot of blu-rays with TrueHD do NOT have regular DD 5.1!

So if your receiver cannot decode TrueHD or if your BD player cannot decode TrueHD, then you will only get sorry-a$$ 2.0 sound!!!

So yes, you do NEED the capability of TrueHD.

End of discussion.:D

No, it's because of PEER PRESSURE from guys like you!:p:D
LOL, I like that. :D Good choice of word: PEER.

To get a chicklet you need to give them too ;)
Yep, that's the way it goes; you give love, you shall get love, you give war, you shall get war.

But seriously, I rather earn everything that is due to me in a true meaning sense. And it's not the color of chicklets that's going to make a dent on that.
* Besides, I'm after GOLD color with true flying Wings, or should I say Rings.* :)
That's what I called a LossLess statement. ;)

^ And whoever gave me a red chicklet for my post just above, is a coward. ;)
A waste of time and I just don't wanna know.

Be God have mercy on you. :)

* Hey Adam, you're not the only one who someone's playing dirty games with.

Lossy or Lossless audio encoding, that is the question. ;)

Not Red or Green chicklets engraving (or aggravating :D).

Yep, I lost about 400 points in just few days.

I'm still in a coma.

I don't know if I'll ever recuperate.

* Must be Acu...Guy's fault. :D Just because. :D

Yes it is noticeable, just not hugely so.
Well, would you like the facts (accurate numbers)? Because I got them.
Just ask me, if you really want to know croseiv, no problem, it would be my pleasure.

* I also would like to take this opportunity to assure you that my name is Robert (or Bob for the English speaking people and also the people that I used to work with), I am also French, I only type with one finger at a time (the index of my right hand), I'm a very good guy, very sociable and friendly, I never did anything wrong in Audio forums anywhere, and I did feel hurt before by you for having me mistaken for someone else. But I'm over that now, and wish to be at Peace with you and everyone else.

Sincerely,

Bob

I'm aware of the numbers there. It's just that the data rates don't necessarily reflect what's being heard by the listener. Now I do think SACD offers a pretty good sound improvement over redbook CD. At least to my ears in my set up.

That's good for you. In my system SACD does not always sound better, some do, but some don't. It depends more on the recording than the format.

Yap, I got few green ones, but a TON of red ones (say just over 400 points in the red).
Now, that ain't lossless, but it is dramatically lossy. ;)

hardware & software

Computers and electronics seem to have a mind of their own.

When I was using the PS3 + HK receiver, I thought that I could tell the difference between DD & TrueHD.

But then with the Denon AVR5308 + DVD3800BD, I thought that I could NOT tell the difference.

And now with my HTPC, I believe I can tell the difference. TrueHD just sounds "more dynamic" with "more bass" and "more surround effects". I don't know. Maybe on my HTPC + Asus Xonar, the TrueHD just sounds LOUDER?

For example, on "Sex & The City" BD, when I switched from DD to TrueHD, the sound just seems louder and just "MORE".:D

Maybe that's why a lot of people seem to "differ" on opinions. It's not just the TrueHD vs DD; it's also the actual HARDWARE/SOFTWARE being used.
