Going from lossy to lossless... is that that noticeable?

The words pretty much say it all. You can have bad lossless recordings, great lossy ones, but no power on earth can put back what was lost and all other things being equal, assuming that you have good ears, good equipment and a good listening environment, the lossless one will have more detailed info to work with. The problem in the real world, however, is that "all things" are never equal, so, like a lot of things...it depends.

Always on the individual audio recordings by the sound recording engineers and film mixers.

I believe the MOST IMPORTANT point of all this HD audio is that a lot of blu-rays with TrueHD do NOT have regular DD 5.1!

So if your receiver cannot decode TrueHD or if your BD player cannot decode TrueHD, then you will only get sorry-a$$ 2.0 sound!!!

So yes, you do NEED the capability of TrueHD.

That's good for you. In my system SACD does not always sound better, some do, but some don't. It depends more on the recording than the format.

Yap, I got few green ones, but a TON of red ones (say just over 400 points in the red).
Now, that ain't lossless, but it is dramatically lossy.

hardware & software

Computers and electronics seem to have a mind of their own.

When I was using the PS3 + HK receiver, I thought that I could tell the difference between DD & TrueHD.

But then with the Denon AVR5308 + DVD3800BD, I thought that I could NOT tell the difference.

And now with my HTPC, I believe I can tell the difference. TrueHD just sounds "more dynamic" with "more bass" and "more surround effects". I don't know. Maybe on my HTPC + Asus Xonar, the TrueHD just sounds LOUDER?

For example, on "Sex & The City" BD, when I switched from DD to TrueHD, the sound just seems louder and just "MORE".

Maybe that's why a lot of people seem to "differ" on opinions. It's not just the TrueHD vs DD; it's also the actual HARDWARE/SOFTWARE being used.
