I really don't see what the big deal is about MJ's death. Yeah, he was a big star, but so what, it's not like he was your friend. I just don't get why people are crying. Cry if your family or close friend passes away, or even shed a tear for some kid who starved to death, not over somebody who didn't even know you existed.
I see your point, but, I think a lot of people identified with this guy. He truely is the king of pop, and there probably will never be another artist with the amount of fans he had. He truely was/is a worldwide star.
It seems that you either get this tradgety, or you don't. You and I, and some others on here, obviously aren't making the connection. And, I haven't had anyone vocalize to me really why they are so upset.
Some say he was the king of pop, brought dancing and the wholistic approach of pop music into its modern form. Dancing, personality, marketing, stage presence. It's difficult, or impossible even, to argue that the guy wasn't a good performer, I mean, even someone who didn't like his music has to admit the guy was a killer performer.
But what strikes some of us as a little false, is that there wasn't much talk of Jackson, or outward fans, until he died. You heard more of the man himself than is music, and regardless of what you consider to be molestation or not, or what the truth is... as difficult as it is to argue he wasn't a great of pop music, its as difficult to argue that he wasn't weird.
Maybe people are upset because they feel he was a story of an American tradgety. A rebound of American "dream seeking" .. the darkside of it all. A guy that was isolated and created for the amusement of others. And with this rise of popular music, he became part of the memories of a lot of peoples childhoods. The only connection I can see between all the coverage, is that people remember from him. Maybe not even him, but, where they were with his music, what was going on then.
Then I hear the other side, that while one argues he broke barriers of race, others argue that he denied his own. While one side argues he was a product of other peoples evil and greed, others say he was just a crazy pedophile.
Another thing I have noticed, is while people feel helpless about the economy, and even the experts don't seem to have much of an opinion about it or when it will recover, this is a magnificent distraction. It's something everyone can have an opinion about and be an expert on. Everything is so blurry now, and abstract, that this seems viseral to people. I think people have so much built up pain right now, and its so unexplainable, that this is like someone let them scream.
