HTPC HDMI works directly to TV but not through Yamaha 663: thoughts?

Today was the day I finally plugged all the components into the new system and fired it up. It was a little anticlimactic when the HTPC (which is my HD DVD/Blu Ray player) threw me some curve balls.

I was firing up the computer for the first time as well as getting the new TV setup and running everything through my Yamaha 663.

I was able to get everything working through the 663 except for the computer (not showing up on the TV when the TV and receiver were on the appropriate input for the computer). I then got the computer working and using the TV as a monitor if I connected the HDMI directly from the computer to the TV and bypass the receiver.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing the problem. I know it is not the HDMI cables as they work when directly connected to the TV. I know its not the HDMI in on the receiver as the Uverse box worked in both of the HDMI ins and the computer did not work in either.

Try by powering your TV first, then your receiver.
And power down your receiver (unplug it) to reinstate his status.
* Recheck your settings.

Powering down and changing the order in which I powered on didn't work.

Which settings should I check?

Display set at 1920 X 1080

PC is using Intel (R) G45/G43 Express Chipset with Intel Graphics Meida Accelerator Driver

reconnected straight to TV and working, retried through receiver still nothing.

I'm not sure Substance. One thing is for sure though, I hate HTPC, it screw everything up. I use my Harmony for the antidote. :)

I hear you. I just had this computer built and told them just to make it like my brother's who has his as the brain for his HT system. I don't know much about it yet and it is my first attempt to use a pc as an htpc and it is driving me nuts:)

Maybe this is a dumb suggestion, but you do have your receiver's HDMI set to the correct input right?

Believe me: at this point there are no dumb questions, I will try just about anything.

Yes, the receiver is set to the right input

have you tried using the other HDMI input, or using different HDMI or HDMI-DVI cables? The only other thing I can think of is to connect the pc straight to the tv, and change the resolution to 640x480 then reconnect to the receiver and see if you get a picture then, if so, try readjusting the pc's resolution back to 1080p. I'm guessing since it works when connected directly to the tv, that it's not an HDCP issue, so maybe there is a handshake issue between the 3 devices.

UPDATE:
I have the PC into both HDMI Ins on the 663 and it still not working (both Ins work on the Cable box).

I think your are right in that it's not an HDCP issue but a handshake problem in that even when changing the resolution back, it still doesn't work through the receiver.

I called Yamaha support. All I got from them was that "there is nothing in the receiver that should cause a problem for the HDMI signal". I said could it be a compatibility issue between the video card and the receiver? He said it could be. I asked if there was any record of issues between the 663 and my card and he said he didn't know because they don't keep records of problems between video cards and the receiver b/c those are the video card manufacturers problems not yamahas. I said either way they become the consumer's problem and it would be helpful if there was a list compiled of known issues.

Now I have to decide if I want to:
1) Replace HTPC with Bluray player (sucks that I bought some HD DVDS for a a great price b/c this LG player in the PC could play both)
2) Change our video card in computer (seems like a crap shoot)
3) Change receiver (there goes the budget)
4) Purchase Blu-ray and HD DVD player (then I guess I would have to get an HDMI switch as the 663 only has 2 HDMI ins and I am also running HD cable box).

No good answer I suppose. Anyone have other suggestions?

Have you updated to the latest video chipset drivers? I use the below card in my media pc with my RX-V1800, and it runs blu ray great on my setup.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125251&Tpk=radeon 4350

It's only $25 after rebate, and has free shipping, I would say it's your best bet in using your current setup. It's also a low profile ready card, and has HDMI with audio support. I know it works fine with my RX-V1800, but haven't yet tried it with my RX-V663, but was actually thinking about trying it tonight.

That would be great if you could try it out and see. It is worth a shot. Otherwise I am buying a different receiver I guess. I have too much $ in the PC to only use it as my office computer.

Well I'm sure if it works with my one yamaha receiver, it will work with the other one, but it would likely cost less to throw in an inexpensive video card than to replace the receiver.

Another video card like a Radeon is what I was also going to suggest. It will be an overall better solution than what Inte*l currently has out there.

^ Sorry for the small interruption here, but can I ask you "jinjuku" if you can magnified that nice looking Avatar of yours?

Soon that I saw it, I said to myself, WoW! What a nice looking Avatar!
But then, by trying to make up for the real picture, I had a bit of difficulty.
I guess it's just too small, but even then, it still looks impressive. :)

I think that's the way to go.

I tried hooking mine up using the DVI out on the PC an DVI/HDMI adapter into the Yamaha and it worked just fine (well, I got a video signal, but couldn't get near the resolution as I can get when connecting it straight into the TV).

Hopefully if this card is good to go in terms of full HD transmission of video and sound to your Yamaha receiver it will work with the 663.

That card runs my 73" in full 1080p playing blu rays just fine, but I don't use the HDMI output, only the DVI, and a spearate audio card for digital coax, since that's what I was already using before I got the new card.

That card I linked works great with the RX-V663, and it also passes audio, but the audio is only 2.0, so you will want to use something else for audio besides that video card should you decide to go that route.

I also switched out my DVI-HDMI cable with a regular HDMI cable and it works just as good, if not better.
