HDCP Video card question

Well that is certainly much easier than using bdinfo and tsmuxer. I guess if you do that then you will only get a folder, I would still have to use imgburn to create the .iso.

With DVDFab6, you SKIP all those steps: BDInfo, TsMuxer, & ImgBurn!

DVDFab6 will burn the ISO image for you - all in one step.

I'll be even more excited about it when they add in the ability to compress a dual layer disc to fit onto a single layer disc.

Me personally, I like having all the digital rips on my RAID to stream to me media box. Swapping discs and all that is a pain I suppose.

Do you guys prefer using discs? Or would you like to archive your discs somewhere and just use rips of the discs?

It depends, I like having rips of my discs, and I do use the rips that I have stored on my PC, but I do occasionally like to take movies to my friends house to watch with them, so I would need a physical disc for that. I don't like swapping discs either, but I try not to be that lazy.

Hehehe, it's not laziness on my part, it's more the fact that I want to be able to watch a movie or TV episode without bringing a disc out. Less chance of it getting scratched or lost. After I broke my Resident Evil Zero for Gamecube and Capcom would replace it for the oh-so-reasonable fee of $20, I decided I don't want to risk the media.

Yeah, taking stuff to friends and family is different. Ya know, I only know one person with a BD player, and that's a PS3. I don't even have a BD player, just a PC BD drive. :)

Remember DVDShrink? That was cool. I put all my 24 DVD9s to DVD5.

I still use DVDShrink, along with DVD Decrypter, but both are ran pretty much automatically with Ripit4me. I want something like that, but for blu ray, of course it seems as though dvdfab is looking to add that functionality in the future.

I've been using DVDFab v5 for regular DVDs for a while. It will compress regular DL DVDs to fit SL DVDs.

But do we really want to COMPRESS the HD quality on blu-rays? Isn't that defeating the purpose of HD?:D

Yeah, I rip all my blu-rays onto HDs.:D

It's so much easier to load and watch.

I'm sure newer BD players are getting faster with loading times like the PS3.

But the load time for BD on HTPC is super fast.

Yesterday I decided to use my $2K Denon BD player for the heck of it - you know dust off the cobwebbs?:D

Man, it took forever to load a movie.:D

These days I'm watching BDs on my HTPC (using the ISO files ripped onto my HDs)about 99% of the time.:D

I don't notice much difference when watching a dual layer dvd that has been compresesed to fit onto a single layer dvd, so I would expect even less compression to be needed to fit a bd-50 onto a bd-25, since most dual layer discs don't use the entire 50 gigs. But it will still be HD, and I'm sure it will still look good, so long as the software doing the compression is good. But I would imagine there is a lot more involved in compressing a blu ray than there is with a regular dvd. I guess only time will tell though.

I cannot believe you guys compressed your DVDs!

That is a sin!:D

Before BDs, I was actually using DVDFab to SPLIT DVD9s to 2 DVD5s so that I could maintain the exact QUALITY Uncompressed!!!

Shame on you!:D

For that much hassle, why didn't you just use dual layer discs? I'm more into audio than video, but I still like good video quality, which is why I'm mainly watching everything in HD now, but dvdshrink does a good job of compressing when using the deep analysis feature, which is another reason I still use the ripit4 me program over something like dvdfab, and if need be, I'll run anydvd in the background if I need to, but this will allow me to jump straight to the main menu and bypass all the trailers and warnings, etc...

DL DVDs cost a lot more, and I'm cheap.:D

ripit4me is only for DVDs, right?

DVDfab can also bypass all the trailers and warnings. I still don't get the advantage of ripit4me over dvdFab.

Says the man with a $2,000 blu ray player that he never uses ;)

Maybe there is no advantage to using ripit4me over dvdfab, but I don't know how it does the compression process... Ripit4me rips the disc with dvd decrypter, then cleans up the the vob files, and then opens it up in dvd shrink, which will allow me to decide if I want to let it do a deep analysis of the disc, to increase quality (not sure if dvdfab does this) also I can choose the level of compression for extras, menus, and main movie... maybe dvdfab lets me do this too, I just haven't bothered trying it for regular dvds, since ripit4me has always done a great job. But the more tools I have in my arsenal, the better. I like both programs, and have been using both for years... But I really like the dvd/file to ipod feature of dvdfab, it's the easiest way to get my tv shows and movies on my itouch.

It's funny how much we are willing to spend on some things, but not on some others.

There is no way I'm spending even $2 on coffee, but I'm willing to spend $20K on Home Theater.:D

Yeah, it's good to have plenty of options available. I'm sure each has it's own merits.

I'm too cheap to spend the extra $5 on shipping cost, so I used the free shipping option at amazon. Now I'm still waiting on that Asus Xonar TrueHD/DTS-HD card.:D
