HDCP Video card question

I have a Nvidia 8600GTS card in my Dell Vostro 400 desktop

http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_8600.html

I also have the LG GGW-H20L blu ray drive, and my monitor is a Samsung 20" lcd flat panel connected via DVI. When I play a blu ray disc from the drive, it tells me that there is an HDCP issue and to connect the monitor via VGA or dsub, but I'm pretty sure the video card is HDCP compliant, could it be that the issue lies with my monitor? I don't have this issue when running anydvd hd in the background. I also don't have this issue when I rip the blu ray to an .iso and mount it with daemon tools and play it. I've tried both Powerdvd ultra 9 and Arcsoft Totalmedia theater and still have the same hdcp issue.

I will eveuntually make this my media pc and will have it connected to my mitsubish dlp via my RX-V1800 and don't really want to replace the card unless I need to.

Yeah, it could be the monitor.

So this happens with every blu-ray you put into the LG BD drive?

Guess it's time you start ripping all your BDs into your HDs.:D

This is one good reason why we have anyDVD HD and BD ripping.

When I first played X-Files BD directly on the BD drive, it would not even work. I had to rip it into my hard drive first, and then it played perfectly.

yeah, it happens with every blu ray... I guess I could just take the PC downstairs and hook it up where my media pc is, and that would answer my question, but I'm lazy and don't wanna unhook all that stuff. I mainly watch blu rays on my PS3 which works perfectly, but I like to keep my options open, and I love my samsung monitor, I paid a lot of money for it and don't want to have to buy a new monitor just for HDCP compliance. My video card states that it's HDCP ready, which is what leads me to believe it is the monitor that is causing the issues, but then why would it play fine if I rip it? btw, I ripped the disc with the latest ver. of DVDfab platinum, since the copy I have of anydvd hd wouldn't recognize the disc, so maybe the fact that it was ripped with dvdfab had something to do with it working fine. Computers are so finnicky, which is why I prefer to just use my PS3 for watching movies.

Is the monitor HDCP compliant? If not, that's the source of your problem. Yay for Intel... :(

When you rip the disc, you're most likely using a program that removes the HDCP protection.

I'm pretty sure the monitor isn't hdcp compliant, so that sucks. I doubt my other monitor is either

HDCP is just a way to make money. Implementing it requires a license from Intel, but current high definition video media requires it. It doesn't add features or convenience, and it certainly doesn't guarantee connectivity and compatibility as evidenced by all the handshaking issues between various piece of hardware.

You know an engineer came up with it. The engineer's motto: "If it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet." :)

It's so silly. You pay good money to buy all these equipments. Then these greedy bastards decide to screw with you and make your equipments obsolete.

HDCP & PAP may be bad for us, but anyDVD HD, DVDFab6, PDVD9, TMT3, & uTorrent are great for the consumers.:D

I'll be really happy when an affordable all in one audio/video card with HDCP & PAP that can run full 1080p and bistream lossless audio of all flavors comes out. That will make life much simpler for everyone.

If if our big media overlords had their way, all of these would be illegal for you to own.

That is why i finally broke down and bought anydvd.
BTW, they are working on cloneBD. Think cloneDVD, but with blu-ray.
They have also said once it's finished they are going to start working on a player (this may be next year). It would be like media player classic, but with true unmolested sound.

I thought AnyDVD HD already did the same thing for Blu-Rays that CloneDVD did for DVDs.

But we can already use anyDVD HD to rip blu-ray ISO files into the hard drive.

Also, we can already use DVDFab v6 to rip/burn onto blank blu-ray discs.

Both anyDVD HD & DVDFab v6 support DTS-HD & TrueHD.

I used dvdfab 6 to rip a blu ray .iso to the hard drive, it worked great and ripped the disc that any dvd hd 6.5.5.9 wouldn't recognize.

Computers are weird.

Sometimes PDVD9 works great, & sometimes TMT3 works great.

Sometimes AnyDVDHD works great, and sometimes DVDFab6 works great.

It's great to have options available.:D

Very good to have options available indeed. I did get the movie to play off the disc on my other monitor, but I'm guessing it's becuase it's an analog flat panel monitor, but I'm still using the DVI input and it looks amazing. I doubt the other monitor is HDCP compliant, but works because it's analog instead of digital.

My assumption (dangerous i know) is that they want an easy to use product that allows customization like cloneDVD for the masses.
Sure HD space is cheap, but do you really want to store 500gb of directors comments? :D

Yes the burning software supports the sound, but it is the playback software pdvd, tmnt, ect that seem to fail so many people. As a bonus slyPlayer is going to be free.

I hope Sly Soft can keep up the good fight. Their corporate HQ is based in Antigua.

HDCP, ICT (Image Constraint Token), PAP all = anti-consumer. It hasn't stopped the crook and has built an artificial roadblock to legitimate consumers that happen to be tech savvy.

I do continue to purchase media, but I purchase it used. I also do Netflix. The game will most likely be over once the delivery mechanism of movies is streamed and no more physical delivery. I really see it going to a license for use model and not a purchase and subsequent 'First Sale' doctrine that we all enjoy currently.

DVDFab v6 is a one-step process that allows you to easily rip just the main movie, instead of the entire disc or any extra stuffs.

As for TrueHD/DTS-HD, it's not just the software --- it's also the hardware. As of this very moment, the only hardware that will allow TrueHD/DTS-HD is the Asus Xonar HDAV1.3 soundcard. But this has to be used with TMT, not PDVD.

Azuntech was working on their TrueHD/DTS-HD + PDVD, but I don't know what's happening to this deal.

When using DVDFab v6 to rip just the movie, does it let you select which audio stream(s) you want? I'm guessing it does, but I've not used that option.

Yes, you can select any or all of the available audio/language.

So if you just want English TrueHD, then it will rip just the English TrueHD and nothing else.
