Everyone has given sound advice.

The only other advice I can give you is to NEVER pay the full RETAIL price of anything you buy from Best Buy.

They should price match other authorized dealers like onecall, 6ave, J&R, crutchfield, amazon, etc.

For example, you should not pay more than $1,100 for the Denon AVr-3808CI.

I bought all my DefTech speakers from a local authorized dealer for 30% off MSRP.

My local dealer also price-matched on my 73" Mitsubishi (amazon.com) for $1,880.
rarely will BB price match online companies...
Sure it will happen every now and then, but the main point of BB is to go in, put your hands on the product, see it, visualize it in your home, walk away with the product in hand, or maybe even take advantage of the services if you're not wanting to take on the task. Its a concept, like it or love it thats why you pay more (besides the fact of the massive overhead). If you are able to haggle with someone then great! but i would not expect it every time you walk in to that store.

You cannot just walk in and expect the discount, you generally need to develop a relationship with the salesperson/ or supervisor. IF you don't you generally will look like an ******* to the sales rep and they will not even try and do anything for you.

I would definitely talk to a sales manager, instead of the sales person.

Ive never had an intial greet in their stores:rolleyes: If magnolia/bb follows their current strategy, they will continue to loose upper lines from all of their vendors.

Best Buy is gonna end up selling the same stuff Walmart does at some point.

What kills me is BB having one price online and then another (higher) price in the store. I wonder how many people don’t realize this. Then when you tell you tell them “It’s $XX.XX on your web site” they very gallantly say “sure, well meet our own online prices”:confused:

Not a good way to keep a customer base, especially when so many online avenues have the same items for less.

They are trying to move to online retailing actually. But prices are all based on where you live. If you live in a lower price zone your retail prices are lower. Every retail store does the same thing. In the rich areas you charge more because the cost is higher to run the store. In the poor areas you charge less because that's all people care about.

Okay, I may be on the extreme end in m y opinion about BB, but seems like all of us have bought our eqpt from stores OTHER than BB for obvious valid reasons.

I see people contradict themselves by saying the the young sales force is knowledgable yet they have poor tech support. I didn't mean to point at them simply putting my experience down. I do like the variety they carry for a one stop look.

There is an easy way to handle this:

1) Ask to speak to the sales manager
2) Tell him you want to blow 5Gs
3) You should receive a pretty hefty discount, hopefully in the neighborhood of online prices (plus you get the convenience of face-to-face interaction)

If I was going to spend $5k at bb on a system I would first budget where the money was going. I would spend something like this.
$1500 - 50" plasma(panasonic or samsung) and bd player
$1k - receiver (denon, pioneer elite or yamaha)
$2500 for loudspeakers and sub (deftech, klipsch or vienna acoustics)
and it would have to be a bb with magnolia

I would like to leave you some positive feedback about BB. I bought my audio system through them (my TV and Blu-ray from elsewhere at different times). The rep that I spoke to at BB was not a manager, yet very helpful and fairly knowledgeable. I took a CD that I had burned myself with a mix of a many different music types so that I could hear as many different tones and sounds as I could find in my collection. We went to a Magnolia store and spent about 2-3 hours in the listening room going back and forth between the speakers and songs. We had previously gone to Ultimate electronics and getten a quote from them which BB matched and beat. The system was originally going to cost around $3300 with cables and warranties, but in the end I walked out at $1900 after tax.

Now It was very close between the Klipsch and the Def Techs for me, however in the end it came down how easily I could mount them in my area and I have been very happy with my Klipsch's.

The rep I was speaking with even stayed an hour after his shift was over to help us get everything together and make sure everything was taken care of.

So, as everyone else has said, go to a Magnolia store and listen to everything. Make your own Audio CD with music that you will be listening to and try to diversify all the songs between the high's and the low's and just listen carefully between all the speakers and see which ones really sound the best to you and start making deals from there. Don't feel bad if you spend half of your day there. I spent a whole day going to 3 different stores listening and dealing.

Good Luck!!

hey guys, sorry ive been away, realy busy right now, work, new baby, honey do's you get the point right.:)
Thanks for commenting on my post, BB would be great for the convenience, its going to be credit. Yes, just like everything else, i could get more bang for my buck online or elsewhere.
Buying online, not to crazy about it, i want to speak to someone face to face when somthing goes wrong with the equipment, or just any question in general.
So if you guys could recomend some equipment that BB has, it would realy help me out. Those of you that have, thanks abunch.

Thanks

Billy:cool:
Your not crazy about buying online, but you'll get advice about what to buy from people online???

In all seriousness, look at online companies that have brick and mortar stores. I have bought from JR.com and audioadvisor.com with no problems. Well, the sub I got from AA was bad, but they sent me a new one and paid all the shipping, so the experience was great. The best thing about shopping online is you will get the best price, plus if you don't live in a state where they have a store, there is no tax!!! Best buy advice is terrible, if you want good advice go to you boutique shops, but I would recommend if you take their time, buy from them, after all they need to sell merchandise to make money.

For the blue ray player get a PS3 its the best bang for your buck deal. Also instead of a conventional tv you might want to go with a HD projector.

While this may work for some folks. Most have no business running a PJ in their house. I run a PJ and as great as it is. TVs are easier to deal with.

Additionally the PS3 costs more and lacks the ability to be used with a universal remote.

The minimum PJ setup is 1800 dollars minimum. I suggest you get a nice TV not a PJ.

Receiver: Denon 1909 $650

Blueray: PS3 $399

TV: Panasonic plasma (not sure what they carry) $1400 - $2500

Speakers: Listen for yourself

Speaker/AV wire/Wall plates: Bluejeans, Monoprice, or Parts Express. Do not purchase these from BB!

Have fun, and pay off the credits cards asap.

When I purchased my Samsung LED TV at Bestbuy I negotiated with a sales manager and haggled about the price for a couple days until I got the TV and a stand at the price I wanted (I researched mostly online and haggled from there). He attempted to get me to add an extended warranty and service plan as well as Monster Cables, but I quickly countered that I had all the cables I would ever need and that I would purchase an extended care warranty online!!!

In the end he tried to convince me that I was ripping him off but we all know they made their money in the end!!!

With $5000.-- I would go on Audiogon and buy used. You might be able to put a $15.000.00 system together for around 5K. I spend 8K on my system which has a retail of 27K without display, that's just for audio. All the equipment I have bought used was in like new condition. If you spend 5K at BB and if you have to sell it the next day you might get $2500.-- for it.

If I buy new I have a Formular which seems to work for me (Retail X 0.65), that's fair to both parties in my book. Never more.
