Is there any magic in power cables??

Guys,

here and there I read people raving about what a good power cable can do for your system, mainly on the video side, etc., etc., etc...

There's one thing I just can't undestand and it's related to both, power cables AND power conditioners as well. If you have a good power conditioner, why in hell would you need a top notch power cable?

If you don't, well, maybe a good power cable can improve the overall performance somewhat, but still I'm not sure about that, to be honest, as I don't have any.

I do believe in what a good power conditioner can do, indeed, but what about those extra expensive power cables promising everything??

Maybe I better call the Mythbusters though ;)

Regards, Chuck

Hi Chuck,

Other than cool looks, fancy cables don't do much.

That's what I tought Rick,

probably the same old song as the hdmi cables though.

What could be somewhat true is that if you're not using a power conditioner at all, you could have a little (or no) improvement by using a fancy power cord. Sounds like Mr. Placebo just loves the cables world anytime, no?

I've spoken in person to people who swear by their different power cords, "if I want a _____ sound I use the ____, if I want a more _____ I use the ____..." etc. I haven't been able to tell any difference whatsoever between power cables and have a hard time accepting that a 3' length of heavy gauge cable is somehow going to correct for the hundred+ feet of 14ga home depot budget wire in the walls and miles of power company cabling that lies between the electic generator supplying the city and my $0.69 three pronged outlet supplying power to my rig. On the other hand heavy gauge power cords look pretty cool.

Guess you're right Jack,

I might be totally wrong, but all seems to boil down into a matter of good looking stuff only!

BTW, you nailed it properly when you mention that ... a 3' length of heavy gauge cable is somehow going to correct for the hundred+ feet of 14ga home depot budget wire in the walls and miles of power company cabling that lies between the electic generator supplying the city...

That's exatly my point though; I mean, if I do have a power conditioning, then I might have some undeniable benefits. In other hand, with just a 3' fancy power cord out from the outlet, what magic benefits will I have ???;)

Regards, Chuck

I ended up replacing mine on my poweramp because it got realy hot when I played it for a long period of time at max levels. Did spend a nice sum on a real good looking cord. Soundwise I can't tell any difference at all. It was more of a safety issue for me.

I just sprinkle pixie dust on mine every 30 days. It makes the highs more vibrant, the lows more powerful and the mids are converted to a masterful array of majestic harmony. And for only $100 a gram, it's truly a bargain.

I am pretty sure I am familiar with this product, but in my parts you don't sprinkle it on the cables...same effect on the music though:D

This is the one I have, doesn't it look pretty. Retail $3295.-- for a 4' cable. Picket it up for $125.--. I can't tell any difference in sound quality. Other than it does not get as hot as the original.

If you set your equipment inside a magnetic fluxuator, it will re-align all of the metalic ions to point North and South. From here you can then use the fibre fluxuator to align all of the plastic ions East to West. This will allow evything to flow much more efficiently thus reducing heat but creating power. Place equipemtent back in rack and enjoy. :)

P.S.

You can also purchase a titanium-fibre rusto cover for your equipment rack. Will remove all negative magnetic forces that can cause the ions to loose their alignment. I did,,, gained 25% power output!! Unbelievable.

Pixy dust 101.....

OK. Here is a home made recipe for making your very own pixy snot at home. This actually works better than pixy dust because one application is all you will need. Just smear some on the connectors before installation.
Go to an auto parts store and pick up some Electro-lite. This is what we call battery acid. Mix it in a tin can with clear silicon grease. (you can use other colors but the clear works best) Go with a 2/1 mixture grease to acid. Mix well using a clean wooden tongue depressor. (brand does not matter but keep your tongue away)
Then swing a dead cat over your head 3 times in a counter clockwise motion. (the cat does not need to be dead but you'll need a lot of band aids if you use a live one) While swinging the cat, be sure to chant the following words. OHWA TAGOO SYAM..
There you have it. No need to spend thousands on high price power cords anymore. Be sure to let me know how this works out for you.

(The comments above do not reflect the views of this or any other audio site. Anyone actually trying this foolish stunt is on their own)

Yes. Magically empties your wallet.

I replaced the one that came with my Marantz because the socket is a bit loose and it actually fell out once. No issue with the replacement cable that didn't cost that much.

They don't do anything, at all. Anyone who tells you otherwise is wrong.\

P.S. I am always right.
