That allows very basic manipulation of the timber of the center channel. There shouldn't be much of any reason to touch it.

Could you give a little more detail of how it isn't successful? So, what I did was to run my receiver's autocalibration procedure initially. Once that was done, I found I still hade to tweek each speaker's level somewhat. I have further refined that by using Avia II. You would probably benefit by using a similar calibration disc, as it runs tones for setting your speaker levels, but the catch is you need a SPL meter to measure those levels. The SPL meter is more accurate than trying to ear it.

i am sitting about 4.7 meters away from the fronts and center. during watching movies sometimes dialogues are very low and i have to turn volume up but during sound effects it feels like the volume is to high. im confused as to what levels i should set fronts and center, coz im afraid the sound is getting mixed..

It sounds like you may need to by a SPL meter (radioshack) so you can take some measurements of your true speaker levels. You can also manually enter your speakers distances etc, if you think the auto set up is getting it wrong. Are you putting your mic at ear level in your listening position?
