Walk for health even if it hurts

 I go for a walk in the A.M. every day about three to five miles max, yes my body feels good for it , I dont smoke so my lungs are loving it and the Doc. says my heart beats slow and steady like an athlete which I am far from.My only problem with this whole routine, blisters gosh darn blisters I try every possible walking cross training sneaker you could imagine, my son loves it every time he comes home from school he takes back another pair of sneakers, what gives does' there come a time when the damn feet just dont want to go any more or what.I get these very sore painful blisters right on the sides of my middle toes, both freaking feet, it sucks.I wish I could just walk on the heels it's almost like I need those darn socks with the individual toes to keep em separated.O.K. just wanted to vent a little bit my feet are killing me right now so I went off a little.Has any body else gone through this or am I the sole, ha, sufferer of toe pain. :(

Swimming is much better for you, but it's not always available. Try a few pair of the "diabetic socks." Wal-Mart has them cheap. They'll help, but your feet still take a pounding walking on hard surfaces.

i second the swimming idea, does not involve too much pressure on the feet but it still gives you a total body workout. should seriously consider it as an alternative option, the pain will get to you and it might be counter effective in the long run.

Very good points by both of you guys, now if I just lived closer to P,Dawg his pool is underway ;)

To be serious I would love the swimming approach I think next summer for me as our funds went elsewhere for this summers projects.

I should say I will get some swimming in , just not as an everyday routine.

I would look into other cardio training. There are plenty of ways to get the heart and lungs working without actually running/walking.

I did fight training (uechi ryu) for several months.....WOW....

Not that such training is required, but they incorporated ton of cardio training as daily routine. Might sound silly, but jumping jacks, burpies, jump rope, pushups, situps each for 1 minute at a time, rest for 30 secs, then do all over again increasing to 1 min 30 sec. with a rest 45 secs......Keep going until you to 2min.

Start slow and work your way up. If you can do 4 min of each you will probably be more fit than most NFL players.

Wouldn't hurt to give it a try and save your feet.;)

I use an air rower I got of Craigslist for about 50 bucks. I love that thing. I can watch a tv show and row at the same time. Thought it's loud so be warned.

In the middle of the toes where they contact each other? Blisters come from repeated contact so for some reason you toes are rubbing with every step you take. maybe you could try some toe socks.

Sounds like the sneakers are too small, and / or not wide enough in the toe box area.
I solved my problem by going to a New Balance store and getting measured there.
They have shoe sizing down to a science.

Good Luck,
Rick

I would also suggest a nice bike. Don't buy anything cheap becuase the better the bike the more you will enjoy the ride.

The first thing that popped into my head were these, which fit well with the toe socks that you mentioned. I thought of them because my brother just told me about them a week ago.

My brother bought a pair and was telling me about them. He really likes them. I'm seriously considering getting a pair myself (yeah, I'm that bored. :))

I'm the aforementioned brother. ;)

I got the KSO model (the Flow is waterproof but too hot for summer walking because of the Neoprene, and the other models have an exposed top). With the appropriate socks, I found them to be very comfortable indeed - like walking barefoot but with some protection. However, because it is like walking barefoot, I'd not recommend them for walking on course gravel or the like - you'll feel it. They're fine on pavement if you don't need extra cushioning (I was just on my daughter's zoo field trip and spent four hours walking through the zoo with no ill effects). However, they are amazing when walking on grass/soil/soft surfaces. I hate having my toes touch each other (yeah, I'm a freak), and these are just the ticket.

People will notice them, though, so that's either a plus or a minus depending on how much of an attention whore you are.

There are some other running shoe stores that will properly fit you for shoes also. I have wide feet with natural arches and wear exclusively New Balance and Under Armor running shoes.

I find this a bit spooky.

I never knew under armor made shoes, I'll look into those but also I have prolly never been actually fit for top notch cross trainers and or running shoes so I will be sure to give that routine a shot what the heck without the dogs we are in trouble, no intended reference to The Dawgs :)

Thanks fellas for all your fine suggestions I appreciate the input, I didn't even go this morning cause of this problem, maybe flip flops and beach sand are in order.
