Inwalls to replace my rockets

I think I need to get rid of my front stage rockets...to make my HT more kid friendly. Is there any recommendations for inwalls that will sound similar to the rockets? Ultimately I would like to only spend a little more than what I can sell the rockets for. I have no idea how much I will be able to get for them though so I can't really lay out a budget. However, some you savy folks on here will know about what I can expect to get for them. I can only give myself a few hundred on top of what I will sell the rockets for to get a good front stage setup. I have been reading good things about RBH, Triad (expensive), and speakercraft. If you know of some good deals...I'm all ears!

What!? Giving up your Rockets!? I do understand your delimma. Childen and wives can be the deal breaker, unfortunately. I am not as familiar with in-walls, but I think you might have a hard time finding some of the same quality as those Rockets, for the money. I could be totally wrong though. Ive heard a few in-walls, and I was never as impressed with the quality versus what you could get for the same money if going with floor standing/bookshelf designs. I have heard some really good ones, but they were very expensive.

Triad, Niles, Martin Logan, and speakercraft would be my demos. And in that order.

As with Triad, James might be known for good reputation and high price. Have never heard either.

Your budget is about $1000 I guess. Otherwise, I would suggest giving the BG Radia (e.g. the R800) Architectural series a listen. (The Rockets have a lot of drivers. Most sub $1k in-walls don't.)

What about the Axiom W22 on-walls? Those can be had for less than $1k/pair.

I know I know. I really don't want to do this. What am I going to do though? I've considered building an enclosure to protect them from the ravages of children but that will sacrifice sound quality as well. I haven't totally given up though. I'm just starting the research to replace them now...so that I can pull the trigger when/if it happens. You guys have listed some good quality name brands for me to look into. I see RBH didn't make anybodies list though...interesting.

Allargon,

I appreciate the suggestion for the onwall solution. That might work. I would just have to mount them a little high probably.

These would blow your Rockets away and then some. I would say as good as any floorstander in that price range.

That's a bold statement. Let's not forget the last floorstanding speaker shoot-out featured speakers in that price range. So, you're also putting the $2k/pair IW2268 against the Dali Lektor's, the Infinity Classia C336, the Krix Phoenix's, the Salk Songtower QWT, stuff from Def Tech, Paradigm, Polk, Martin Logan, etc. We could probably slide some RBH and BG Radia into the mix at that price, too.

I tried to do a search to find a review and didn't find anything.

the niles audio hd6 and hd8 can be had for 450 and 550 including the box kits and provide nice extension down to 60hz and 50hz.

An interesting design, and having heard plenty of pricey in-walls in my travels, I have yet to hear any in walls that can match up to traditional speakers. But hey, maybe someday we'll read of a comparison review.

Personally, instead of in-walls, why not try a set wall mounted mini-monitors. You can tilt them downward from a high position. I'm thinking of the ACI Emerald XL's, and a Force subwoofer. Having heard the Emeralds, they are just flat out stunners. Two major e-zines (ToneAudio & Affordable$$Audio) have raved about them. ACI is very highly respected, including by members on this board.

Those have a lot of drivers just like the Rockets and the higher end BG Radia and Wisdom Audio ribbons. I refuse to believe those Cinepro AFMs are anywhere near $1000. Those look to be about $4000/pair.
I just posted these, no they're not 1K. That's why I said if I had the money. The whole system is over 20K. Would be nice to have would'nt it. They do have a showroom in a Ferrari dealership in Jerricho Long Island. I have never seen inwalls of this caliber, kind of impressed me. I am sure there is better, but these would do just fine for me. Sorry for getting off topic.
