VTF-2 MK 3 vs. ??????

Hi,

I'm getting ready to purchase a 5.1 system that will be used 75% for music.

I'm looking to get a sub to go with either Ascend or Aperion speakers. My receiver is a Pioneer Elite vsx-01txh. The room is 24 X 16 X 9.

I'm considering the Hsu VTF-2 MK 3. Is there another sub in the same price range ($549) that I "should" be considering? I hear great things about SVS, but most people are commenting on the PB12-Plus, which is at another price point.

Any comments or experience with the VTF-2 MK 3?
Thanks,
Dave

I have the VTF3 mk3 and a STF2, so mine are one step above and below the one you are considering. These things are terrific for music and movies, although I just use them for music. I was so impressed with the STF2 that I wanted to see what a much more powerful HSU would sound like, so I bought the VTF3, and, wow, jesus!
If you go with the VTF2 you will love it, seriously.

How about the new Elemental Designs a3-300. I have read and heard some great things about it.

I've got a VTF-2 MK3, and I love it.

A couple caveats, though:
  • it's in a very small room, and going into a pretty big one. We'll see how it does in a much larger venue
  • I'm not one of those guys who's had several subwoofers. I've had two really crappy ones and now this.

That said, I still think it does a great job. It certainly plays musically enough to fit my (band director) taste, and it goes big enough to get the police called!

What about the mfw-15, i hear the amp issue is being resolved, and you can get one for $500 when they restock in June.

Did you consider the SVS PB12-NSD? It would directly compete with the Hsu 3.3 for a price closer to the Hsu 2.3.

I agree with this one. It would be the direct competition to the HSU and costs less. Both are excellent subs.
