Monster is a bad word around here. Bose Cost more than $1k, despite how they sound, so saying that your setup cost $1K doesn't really tell us anything. I know what you mean though, and Energy is a good brand.
What Lsiberian is getting at is, satellite speakers, no matter how good they may seem, have the limitation of having very little midbass. Midbass is possibly the most important range for speakers to reproduce (vocals in particular), and when you have a crossover set high, that midbass is coming out of the sub instead of the speakers and it can become localizable. What that boils down to is that it sounds like the sound is not coming from the speakers as it should be. It can be harder to get a system like this dialed in than a system with larger speakers that allow a lower crossover point.
The Behringers mentioned are only ~$200 a pair but are very well regarded.
