Help with Samsung HT-TWZ415 Wireless Rear Speakers

I recently purchased a Samsung HT-TWZ415 Home Theatre system, and I am having problems getting the wireless rear speakers working. I bought the unit as a refurb, so I am suspicious that there may be a hardware defect, but I want to be sure I'm not missing something in the configuration/setup first.

I do have the rear speakers working in wired mode, so I know that I've got rear sound output.

I have inserted the wireless "key" into the main unit, and attached the speakers to the wireless base. When I turn on the wireless base, the blue "Link" light flashes for a few seconds, then goes off, and the red "Standby" light comes on.

It appears, from this, that communication is not being established between the main unit and the wireless base. The manual has some instructions for this, but they are somewhat unclear. They say:

If the main unit doesn't make wireless connection, the system needs ID Setting between main unit and wireless receiver module. With the main unit turned off, press remote control's number button "0"|"1"|"3"|"5" and unit turned on. With the wireless receiver module turned on, press "ID SET" button on the back of the unit for 5 seconds.

When I'm pressing the numbers on the remote, with the main unit off, do you think I'm sending instructions to the main unit? Do you think the phrase "and unit turned on" means the unit should turn on after I do this, or that I should press the power button after 0135, or something else?

If anyone has experience with this kind of unit, and can provide suggestions for getting this to work or diagnosing the problem, that would be appreciated!

Welcome to the forum, Ian!

That is a confusing set of instructions. My parents ran into something very similar with a Philips DVR that I got them.

I'm assuming from your question that you did press that key sequence on the remote and the main unit did not turn on. So, here's what I would do:

1. Turn the main unit off. Press those keys on the remote control. With the wireless station turned on, press the "ID SET" button (which I'm assuming in on the wireless station based on the owner's manual images). Then, turn on the main unit and see if the link is established.
2. If that doesn't work, then try this. Turn the main unit off. Press those keys on the remote control. Turn the main unit on. With the wireless station turned on, press the "ID SET" button. Then, see if the link is established.

Seeing as how none of that should have any permanent effect on the system, you can do that stuff with out any fear that you'll hurt anything. When I run into ambiguous instructions like that, I just follow what I think are logical possibilities. I'm guessing that you've tried the two approaches that I listed above already, but I figured that I'd list them just in case.

Is everything plugged in? I always ask myself this question first. Problems are usually simple. So take is slow and be thorough. You might even have someone else take a look. Fresh eyes spot problems straight away.

OK, I got a chance to go through this a little more methodically:

For reference:
- I've got it set so the wired speakers are producing sound, so I know it's not a matter of only producing 2-channel sound. I then change the speaker wires so they're connected to the wireless base. (In terms of verifying everything's plugged in, the only changes are to plug the wireless base unit into the power outlet, and plug the rear speakers into the wireless base unit.)

- The wireless base has two lights, a blue one for "link" that flashes for a few seconds when turned on, and a red one for "standby".


(1) Turned the main unit off, pressed 0-1-3-5 on the remote, the main unit did not turn on. Pressed the "ID Set" button on the wireless base. The standby light goes off, and the link light starts flashing, as if I had just turned it on. Turned the main unit on, but the blue light goes off and the standby light comes on (after a few seconds, as usual - does not seem to be related to turning on the main unit). No sound to back speakers.

(2) Turned the main unit off, pressed 0-1-3-5 on the remote, then turned the main unit on. Pressed the "ID Set" button on the wireless base. The standby light goes off, and the link light starts flashing, as if I had just turned it on. The blue light goes off and the standby light comes on after a few seconds. No sound to back speakers.

(3) For variety, turned the main unit on, and pressed 0-1-3-5 on the remote. Pressed the "ID Set" button on the wireless base. The standby light goes off, and the link light starts flashing, as if I had just turned it on. The blue light goes off and the standby light comes on after a few seconds. No sound to back speakers.


So, still no luck. Any more suggestions?

Sounds frustrating. Here are some thoughts:

• When you pressed 0-1-3-5 on the remote and then turned the main unit on, did you use the power button on the remote or on the main unit? Whichever you did, try the other one and follow the rest of the sequence. I would think that it would be on the remote, such as 0-1-3-5-Power.
• You're holding the ID SET button for five seconds, correct?

I'm using the remote. I'll give it a try with the button on the base.

You're holding the ID SET button for five seconds, correct?

Yes. It's pretty obvious when it "takes effect" - the blue "Link" light comes on steady for a bit, then the standby light turns off, and the link light starts flashing. (That only takes about 3 seconds, I suspect the "5 seconds" is mostly to make sure you hold it for at least 3, but I keep holding it for the full 5...)

Hey mate how did you go with this? I have just bough this unit and I'm having the same problem. From what I've read other people's solutions seem to have been

1. Do the 0135 on the remote then power on the unit using the physical button on the unit.
2. Turn the unit and the rear speakers on at more or less the same time.
3. Play around with the wireless sender card at the back of the unit some guy even taped it in place
4. Take it back - some have had issues and don't work.

Let me know how you go, I'll try the top 3 things tonight and see how I go.
