Today was day 3 of the battle of Gettysburg. The day of the ill-fated Pickett's Charge. I recommend the movie "Gettysburg" with Martin Sheen as Gen. Lee.

Great movie based on a great book - "Killer Angels".

Col Chamberlain's wheel charge after denying multiple uphill pulses from Alabama militia is my favorite part.

The battle's outcome might well have been very different had Confederate General Jackson not been shot off his horse by his own men two months earlier. He was a vaunted maneuver leader and may have convinced Lee to attack supply chains in the rear. Longstreet tried but was unconvincing.

Well, they need to remaster this 1993 movie in 4K ATMOS first. Then I will rewatch. :D

Agreed. Still amazing to watch. I'd venture to say that no other time in the history of warfare did as much artillery get blasted off than what was blasted at Pickett's Charge. The movie does an amazing job attempting to replicate it. Here is my photo taken about 10 years ago of the field where Pickett's Charge took place. The Rebs started their march to defeat from the tree line to where the Union was at the rock line. The movie was filmed on site. Some scenes were there, but slightly moved to avoid monuments, etc.

Jeff Daniels is fantastic as Chamberlain. I spent a lot of time on Little Round Top in the woods at exactly where Colonel Chamberlain's 20th Maine Volunteer Regiment held... no, saved... the line against the Alabama Regiment. Most definitely heroic. "BAYONETS!!!" I was somewhat awestruck being there. Almost hallowed ground. See the movie you guys.
